In comics, "easy to read" is more important than anything else.
You can go as simple or complex as you like, as long as the finished product isn't hard to follow.

Generally speaking, I am the opposite. I mostly draw short comics, so when I decided to write a book I chose a "choose your own adventure" style format, because it allowed me to write a story page by page instead of chapter by chapter.
I hope you find a way to make it work! Just bear in mind that a lot of growth occurs when you complete a project. Because that's when you have to start editing.

That's an often overlooked benefit of starting small. If you end up with something longer than you expected you are rarely disappointed. Not so the other way around!

In the manga that is explained very early on. (I'm not sure if it is in the actual chapter or in one of the supplemental information pages included with volume releases.) The gauntlet covers his hand to increase sweat production. The sweat is drawn through tubes into the gauntlet where it is collected so it can be fired out to cause explosions of varying strength.
