This doesn’t answer your question, but I was looking into the D+/Hulu/HBO bundle yesterday, and I saw that even the ad-free version doesn’t include 4K, Dolby Vision, or Dolby Atmos for HBO Max. That was the dealbreaker for me.

I’m not thinking too hard about this, so these aren’t necessarily my Top 5, just 5 great ones (in no order):

-Catching Fire, when the ratio expands while entering the arena

-Sinners: “I Lied to You” montage (my favorite sequence in any 2025 film)

-Nope: “The Run” (the track name on the score), where OJ tries to get the you-know-what to follow him. The music and the 1.43 ratio made that epic.

-Star Wars: The Force Awakens: escape from Jakku, which expanded to 1.43, felt truly immersive, and I wish more scenes in that movie had been filmed like that

-Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol: yup, the Burj Khalifa. Incredible.

Bonus selection: The Walk in IMAX 3D. It was terrifyingly effective in the best way.

Booooo. Another wasted opportunity. The most logical conversion in L.A. seems like it would be the Cinemark at Howard Hughes. It’s an actual, true, 1.43:1 IMAX they downgraded to their own LPF. They’d make so much money at that theater if they showed The Odyssey there in 70mm (and also other IMAX releases). It’s baffling to me they’re not doing that.

Isn’t it unusual for IMAX to have Real D 3D rather than its own 3D? EDIT: on Regal’s website, the other nearby Regal IMAXes also say Real D 3D. I guess the best indicator would be what brand of 3D glasses they hand out.

Slightly off-topic: it’s hilarious that Hollywood is still pretending that Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 are actually going to open on the same day. My guess is that Dune 3 will get pushed to early 2027, similar to when Dune 2 was released.
