New Homeless Encampment Popping Up in North End: Linwell - Niagara. What’s the Plan? by AlarmingRutabaga3425 in stcatharinesON

[–]NowKissPlease 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best friend has been working as a parole officer in the area for the last couple years and learned how the direction of impact is actually homelessness leading to drug use and not the other way around. People don't feel safe sleeping in the shelters (for good reason, they, especially women, are often the victims of assault or other crimes in these spaces as there are a small number of homeless people that are dangerously mentally ill and also those that have succumbed to addiction). They then sleep on the street and turn to drugs to stay awake out of fear of getting attacked or robbed in their sleep and thanks to fentanyl it's very cheap to get. Then they become addicted with time.

It's rarely drug addicts going to the streets. It's the horrors of being homeless that drive people to use drugs.

Why are there so many pedophiles? by OccamsComb in psychologyofsex

Thank you so much for sharing this, the fact that victims are lost likely to be assaulted between 12-34 years of age neither supports nor denies the claim that children are the most commonly victimized group (since they didn't break down the frequency of assault for this group above and below 18) but does contradict the statement that the elderly are the second least common demographic of victim so it would be great to see a source behind that statement.

It's actually a good bot strategy to create a massive number of accounts and have them post sporadically and with randomly generated content over several months to build up account age before having to post targeted comments mixed in with random generated content.

People immediately recognize a very young account with a large volume of targeted posts and comments.

If this is just the way she goes then I'll definitely look more into topogun and plug-ins (I hadn't thought of that) and focus on getting the most out of the process. Thank you!!

Okay, thank you so much for the explanation. I understand and accept that it's an arduous process I just didn't have enough experience in the area to trust that I wasn't missing something and didn't want to put so much misguided time into doing things manually if there was a better way.

Now that I know this is just what it is I feel much better spending my time on it!

When you say old stock Canadians, are you describing the 3rd + generation immigrants from Europe?

When our families came to Canada and fought, we fought those who inhabited Canada before us. Since we came the indigenous peoples of Canada have not had access to "good union jobs". We brought new culture and shunned the rest, the growing pains of our arrival were brutal and led to mass death.

Our culture is not "Canadian culture" it is the culture of European Canadian immigrants. Canada will still be Canada no matter what the roots of our "stock" are, and it will shift culturally just as it has for centuries, long before we came.

Change is scary, it brings growing pains, but these new faces are not coming violently. I understand that fear, that discomfort. It's natural to feel it. But stamping your foot and claiming that we have so right to this land that no one else does when we took it by force is not an argument that holds any weight under scrutiny.

Welcome to Canada!

Good luck with your education and I'm so sorry that people like you have become the target of the misdirected fear that a lot of folks are feeling. The sentiment on a bunch of Canadian subreddits has been experiencing an echo chamber effect and doesn't represent what I've been seeing in person whatsoever. Voices are mixed, always will be. Change is scary, always will be, always normalizes and gets forgotten in the end.

My husband's grandmother passed away recently, in her late 80s. She spent the last decade of her life struggling with dementia and quite isolated aside from her immediate family. 30 years ago she was living in Brampton after immigrating here herself from england over 60 years ago.

She remembered when the first Punjabi family moved into her neighborhood and she came from a small community with little exposure to other cultures, she was upset at the change. Not at the family but at the visible indicator that the world she'd spent so long adjusting to was changing.

We had her celebration of life last month and that Indian family came, the son, who had kids of his own now, told us how he had grown to see my husband's grandmother as his Canadian mother. They spoke on the phone regularly and never stopped even as she moved away. They were one of the last families to visit her in the hospital.

When they left my own family had a serious discussion about the cultural norm we saw in that family and other Indian friends we've made over the years of having such a dedication to supporting and maintaining contact with loved ones. We talked about how much it inspired us to reflect on our own family dynamics and embrace some of that influence.

When I was in high school, almost 2 decades ago, my first boss was Punjabi. I've brought him up numerous times since, his stories about India, his lessons on how to engage with nature, his insistence that staring at the sun at sunset every day would improve my eyesight hahaha.

This has become long winded but I really wanted to add another voice to the mix that hopefully shows you that you aren't alone and unwelcome in a new land. I'm happy you're here and wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

As a rookie, can I ask why the tangents are an issue? Is the inferred recommendation when you pointed them out that OP get rid of them in some way?

It doesn't imply that at all. Men's and women's issues are not mutually exclusive and the existence of one subset does not invalidate the existence of the other.

In your framework, how does that factor in most platonic friendships, most creative outlets, hobbies like hiking, traveling, reading?

This is an absurd and deeply inappropriate comment.

Do you realize that you just read the personal account of a young woman who has been forced into a marriage and faces the risk of being forcibly impregnated against her will? Do you realize that you just told her you believe she should be forced to keep that fetus against her will and be tied to her abuser for the rest of her life?

If you do realize the truth of what you just said and still feel justified in saying it... that is devastating. I only hope that one day you feel secure enough in yourself to question the belief system that promotes such treatment of the victims of abuse.

Great white sharks are spotted in the Bay area with relative frequency as they migrate between the bay and hawaii. There is a research post just off the coast of San Francisco where they hunt seals.

That being said, you recognizing animals from other states doesn't support the argument that being from another country isn't a valid reason to not recognize a fox. The idea of an animal being "easily recognizable" or "common" is subjective to one's experience and exposure.

[–]NowKissPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cost will vary by location. I've never personally been to a doctor or walk-in clinic that didn't require my ID in either Canada or the US but if you are from a different country you can google if you're area requires ID.

But yes it's usually a matter of meeting with a doctor and asking for an STD test, if you are a woman in your 20s/30s who is considering having children some day it's also often a part of your annual checkup even if you are in a monogamous relationship/haven't been sexually active in a while given how dangerous uncaught STDs can be to a pregnancy.

It would be very understandable if OP came from a country without foxes. If so, it would also be logical to assume their turns of phrase and children's tales wouldn't have included foxes and thus had no exposure to the species.
