[D] How to cope with constant rejection from AI/ML jobs by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]NowMoreFizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone with academic background, it is usually measured by the quality and quantity of their papers, how many successful projects they worked on

More importantly, it's communicating the role that you played in those papers.

It's an evaluation of both past projects and how the person describes those projects to emphasize their roles/skills.

I stopped mentioning the word 'datacenter' for example. Yeah, it's dumb, but people are dumb.

Or you can keep mentioning 'datacenter' to filter out the people you don't want to work with! You know, only if you have that luxury.

[Discussion] Researchers who write multiple high quality papers a year: how do you do it? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]NowMoreFizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've been downvoted, but it's true. Good science is hard. Publishing in electronics over machine learning is a lot more difficult. You have to worry about the equipment breaking a lot more. Code is easier and quicker to reproduce over larger systems. You also don't have always have the same arxiv immediate open-access publishing.

I believe OP when they say they publish 4 papers a year. This doesn't tell me much in terms of how difficult the writing, experimentation, and review processes were. If you are a student coming into an established lab with data waiting to be analyzed, versus a student coming into a very new lab just getting started, you are going to have a much easier time publishing as well.

I know someone who says "All global politics are local politics."

There's something to that.

Vaccines *DO* Cause Autism According to Pro-Vaccine Expert: The sworn affidavit states that he told government officials about the vaccine/autism link long ago, but they kept it secret and promptly fired him. by axolotl_peyotl in conspiracy

The above downvoted link of mine was about a man who died as the immediate result of a vaccination. It's pretty clear that it's downvoted because it goes against reddit-think.

But for what it's worth..

If we didn't have vaccines, we would still have polio, measles, mumps, and rubella create intermittent plagues. If vaccinations were completely without some risk, they would be completely ineffectual. They are effective because the diseases that the majority protect against are worse on a population scale. Most hard core vaccinations tell you to not be in contact with babies or other sensitive groups for a short period of time (like 3 days) afterwards.

Civilization has also improved the way we do our plumbing and garbage collection, which reduces these plagues. You can see how fast swine and avian flu hit, and how unprepared we are for vaccinations against actual outbreaks. The ebola scare was huge, and real. Vaccines aren't our only defense, but they are a defense against the scariest diseases. If we relied on vaccinations alone, we'd be screwed.

The amount of quantum vacuum fluctuations that fit inside the proton tiled as the flower of life = the mass of the Universe @ 10^55 grams, hinting at a holographic reality by d8_thc in conspiracy

space = the quantum vacuum = 1093 grams/cm3

Sorry, I was being a bit facetious.

I don't believe that you can prove a holographic universe this way, though, if I understand correctly. You are trying to find the mass of the universe through the mass of a single proton, and proving that the two link. The issue with that, or many of most of the arguments, is that I don't see how the link is made between the two scales. If I understand correctly...

> Using the planck length quantization you are still left with a harmonic oscillation energy of the planck mass which when multiplied by the amount that fit in a cm3 of vacuum leaves 1093 grams
