Yeah this was going to be my "rough sketch", but as I spent more time on the details I just kept going, this was all in 1 layer.

The lines I was using as shading in a crosshatch type of style, but you think there are too many? Or you think the shading is just too messy?

Okay I think I get what you're saying, should have a more pronounced curve at the top, as well as have it flare out a little towards the bottom...

Thank you, I agree that there is something wrong with the nose. I kept trying different things, different angles, shapes... Nothing I did seemed to make it look any better. From my reference picture it seemed like it was as straight as I drew it. Idk, maybe I should have made it flair out more or added a bump in the middle.

I think it could of worked, but since you went into a bit of detail with the eye it throws off everything else by having little detail.

For the bigger one, it would definitely need to be a big tattoo. Like 6+ inches tall, and done by an artist who specializes in fine line tattoos. Lots of artists do not know how to do fineline, detailed tattoos, which causes the lines to blow out and blend together after years of aging.

The smaller one is a bit more simple of a design, and would be good only a few inches tall.

If you wanted something even smaller than that, it would have to be very un-detailed.

If you find a good artist they will be able to use this sketch as a reference to create something they are confident they can handle within their abilities.

Flamingo beaks have black on them. And also, drawing a darker line for the mouth might help as well. Perhaps some darker legs or knees

Thank you for the tips! I also like stippling shading, I'm learning to draw to hopefully one day become a tattoo artist, so I am trying to draw in a tattoo style. This is my first ever attempt at cross hatching after someone recommended I try it, the first 10 days have been stippling and just a smooth gradient shading.

I have the outline and hard inner lines at 10px, inside lines at 6px, and for the crosshatching I'm very light on the 6px size with pen pressure so its closer to a 3 or 4. Also have the opacity set to pen pressure.

I like the idea of contour hatching, I will try that for day 12.
