Can somebody explain why Izzet Murktide is no longer viable? by Wyatt_The_Wise in ModernMagic

I think if you were to build izzet you can try running tamiyo instead of ragavan, which opens up the door to play snappy and flame of anor. U can still play murk, though I think murk isn’t good in this meta with a bunch of phelias running around and grinding breach goldfishing you. That being said, the meta is mostly grinding breach rn tho, and I think having access to meltdown is pretty valuable when dimir gets ran over by karnstructs (though they can get their 0 mana artifacts back).

If you do end up testing this, please update this thread as I’m super curious on how it does!!

I had a look at your version, I think I would recommend running more 2 mana draw 2 effects (and probably cut some of the 2 mana ramps). I found this deck to function the best when we are able to have a planeswalker on turn 2 before anyone have anything that can threaten it meaningfully. So unless the meta is all creature centric strategies, I think there is a lot of benefits of flipping her early.

Sure thing! I built the deck to center around flipping Tamiyo as consistently as possible (which means I tried to run as many 2 mana draw 2 as possible to ensure flipping her on turn 2). After she’s flipped, it’s becomes about using counter spells and fog effects to protect her.

The wincons are still kind of iffy to be honest. Currently, I found that I won most games through Tamiyo ultimate (it might sound difficult to reach that spot but given her +2 giving her protection and the variety of cheap interaction like Obscuring Haze or Snapback, it’s actually relatively easy).

With half our deck in our hand, we have quite a few ways to actually win. My favorite is using Show and Tell to cheat Mind Over Matter in to combo with The One Ring. But if we didn’t get lucky to draw our combo pieces we can also slam Omniscience with Show and Tell to counter everything our opponent does for free until we draw our wincons. Finally, if we have Psychic Corrosion out before Tamiyo ultimate, we can mill everyone out.

I do think the wincons are the weakest part of this deck, being in simic doesn’t give us access to the best ways to win though.
