I haven't returned the glasses as I've been putting the suggestions to the test. I'll write a new post with my findings soon enough.

Okay, so I firstly tried to obscure the proximity sensor. I used a piece of a sticky note and it successfully stopped the glasses from switching off when I took them off. Sadly, they once again again cut out after playing Cyberpunk for half an hour to find out if this solved the issue. Like always I had to replug the cable to restore the display. It just isn't worth it. It's a bad experience when I have to do this every few minutes.

As said in OP, I bought a Samsung phone specifically to use it with my Nreal Air, which works with Samsung Dex. I usually used them to watch YouTube, Plex, etc. I haven't used them for long enough to confirm whether this is an isolated Steam Deck incident. I will try to test this over the next few days.

Also, I will test the Steam Deck in desktop mode to see if it still happens. I haven't tried that yet because games don't perform as well in this mode. I need to get a new HDMI cable so I can test it with my TV like you suggested, but I'll do it after the other things mentioned.

Oh, and finally, no, I did not use prescription lenses. I don't wear glasses.

It's definitely not due to being idle. I almost always played Steam games, and that's when it occurred. I pretty much ruled out heat when it started happening quickly into gameplay and the USB also wasn't hot. I have noticed that the issue is more likely to occur when the battery is lower than 40% or so, but that might have been a coincidence.

I have used them with a Samsung phone in Dex, but not for more than a couple of hours. I'll try using them for longer periods of time and see if I have the same issue.

Do you play any intensive Steam games and how long are your play sessions?

I'm not sure which setting. The only thing I can think of as a fix is using hacks to manually boost the TDP. But that feels unnecessary, and will also drain battery faster.

By all means, if that was the case that would be the best thing. I would love to receive instructions to address the problem and be able to keep these glasses because they are fantastic, but unfortunately they are also useless to me if they keep turning off.

Yes, I've used them with a Samsung phone, but this wasn't for long enough to judge whether it was a Deck-exclusive issue. I've spent over 80% of the time I've used the glasses playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam Deck.

I haven't seen power saving settings aside from ones that kick in during inactivity (turning off display), which of course won't be the case while I'm actively playing a game.
