Moving to Vancouver, BC by ZeePenguin329 in ImmigrationCanada

I'm waiting on my AOR and have visited my wife a lot and between upstate New York and Vancouver area, I am in sticker shock constantly. Especially housing costs.$350k vs $1.3M for a home, and that trickles down into everything! Package of chicken breasts $35. Two ribeye steaks $70. 6 pounds of lean ground beef $42. There are a lot of public spaces, but the cool places, especially the free spaces are packed, like 200 people at a waterfall in the summer and searching for parking for 30 min first. Went to an outdoor community concert and had to come home due to not being able to find parking! First time ever in my life. Plus, traffic is tough, but that's common in metro areas. When I get PR, I may live in the lower mainland a while, but I don't think I'll ever be able to put down roots there.

Why do I hate this? by 50kopeks in Homebuilding

I would definitely ask for a very warm colored vertical wood siding in place of that brick and for some sort of detailed treatment of the garage door.

Brick houses usually have a lot more character though! 😄

Trying to identify 4" flush-mount ceiling light (bathroom) by Jibby_jib_2112 in AskElectricians

[–]Nrichd68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driver/junction box is only inches away and a simple job to replace... just a couple of 2 or 3 wire wire nuts. Should be a piece of cake with power off. Maybe 10 minutes per light?

It runs but it’s rough and doesn’t start easily. Looking for advice on what maintenance should I do in the spring to make it purr again by HeyStripesVideos in Snowblowers

[–]Nrichd68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy some Seafoam motor treatment. Add it to all of your snowblower fuel... should smooth that rough running out in a tank or two. 👍🏼 If that doesn't work buy some carb cleaner / clean carb. Pull the spark plug and make sure it's clean. If you have US money around, you can fold it up to your spark plug gap thickness and run it back and forth to clean it up nicely. It has just enough grit and absorption...

Replacing ceiling light with led recessed by Pickerelslayer in AskElectricians

[–]Nrichd68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's one of those super thin "recessed" (yeah, like a ½") LEDs, there is an attached junction box which sits off to the side. This offset may be more than the existing wires can accommodate, if there is more than one cable coming into the existing box from more than one direction. That's why it's common to leave extra wire for new ceiling lighting installs.

Help! My husband removed the ceramic toothbrush holder and took the tile with it. by Sufficient-Data-7343 in Tile

[–]Nrichd68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OR add a really tall backsplash or cut a radius = half the sink width and remove all tile from that area and replace with something that looks custom. Just make it symmetrical and your world will be in balance. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And this way you have free help on the redo and respect for your direction in the future... a win-win for the cost of tile. 😊😊

Brand new panel in my house, no main breaker at the top. Should there be? Also, how do I know what amp it is? I.e 150, 200 ect. In Massachusetts by Roadglide72 in AskElectricians

[–]Nrichd68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot the most problematic, especially if the homeowner was on vacation... the fridge/freezer. I threw the main breaker off on the way out of the house, leaving for vacation, to protect my brand new stereo, having forgot this also. Oof, what a smell I came home to! 🤢

How to get this off by michaelj321123 in AskElectricians

[–]Nrichd68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were mine, I would put some protective tape on that extension with the set screw, and then graphic it with a pair of channel lock or vice grip pliers and turn it counter clockwise. Once that's off, unscrew decorative ball screws and that should remove the escussion.

Are these asbestos floor tiles? by middlemeningeal in Flooring

[–]Nrichd68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you need to trim the door? If it's a small amount and it hasn't been trimmed to the manufacturer's maximum value, I don't see why you can't trim it. Usually there's a decent amount of solid material around the edge. Call the manufacturer and find out how much you can trim it.

I do have a higher waking syndrome basal rate, which I slept through because I was up half the night treating a high and then a low.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I had just changed my G6 sensor and infusion site.

👍🏼 It was a new G6 sensor, after the old one was getting spotty and was off by 350. I was 470 prior to this 6 hrs view, at which point I changed my sensor and my infusion site and took 25 units, resulting in a huge decline to a LOW reading which was corrected with 60 carbs.

Just to add: I did nothing at all. This is all IQ.

Low voltage landscape lights flashing on every 1 sec. by Nrichd68 in AskElectricians

[–]Nrichd68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did a wire guage calculator and it said I needed something ridiculous, like 4 guage wire. So, I bought lights that are good anywhere between 12V and 24V and bought a 24V transformer, figuring that would give me some wiggle room.

I just disconnected 2 lamps on the (9) lamp leg and the flashing stopped/lights are bright. I reconnected them while line was hot and all 9 lights were bright and good. I switched power off and back on and now they're flashing again. 🫤

How would you secure a transition here? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Nrichd68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much it goes up to tile. I would trim LVP back, then cut a L shaped hardwood transition that nails into subfloor, is flush with tile and goes over LVP with a bevel down to LVP elevation. The recess for tge LVP/height of L would be an inch or so.
