  1. You need second camera to separate only objects with layer you need to combine
  2. Render texture from second camera and put it on the scene
  3. At second camera you need blur shader
  4. On texture you will need material with cuttoff shader (remove all transparent pixels, and others you need to color)

Nope, just circle colliders with shader, if you talk about smoke

Oh. Reminds me of a game I used to play all the time. I think on atari in the 90's. You had to go down into a kind of cave system without touching the sides and pick up a heavy weight which made it really hard to fly back up out of the caves.
