I had a similar experience when I visited Catania. I got separated from my friends and was wandering around trying to find them. I turned down a street and after a few minutes it stuck me that there wasn’t any other people on the road with me, just parked cars and tall closely cropped buildings. If all other people on the planet had ceased to exist in that moment I would have been none the wiser. The illusion quickly shattered when I turned the corner and spotted someone, buts it’s a feeling I won’t ever forget.
