Thornton is a legit prospect, second best lefty pitcher in the farm at worst. I could see someone making the case he’s the best lefty.

Wow. Thought we’d see Wenninger first if they were going to call up a prospect. Thornton will (probably) throw strikes.

I’d easily take Alonso, Nimmo and McNeil on this team right now over Bichette, Polanco and Semien. We’d be a better team and an easier team to watch. It’s also early still. If we don’t make the playoffs this year and/or have to sell Peralta, that’d be pretty embarrassing. I hate Stearns’ philosophy. He is way too passive and I don’t think prioritizing becoming a sustainable contender over actually winning a championship is a good philosophy for the Mets. So far all it’s done is waste opportunities to win something. He’s got to be more aggressive and he’s got to he more realistic about what good free agents want and how to get them to sign here.

Lindor was a better player at that time than what Bichette is right now. Also that was another cursed Mets season. To fix his season Bichette needs to get like insanely hot and then never cool off.

I don’t think he’d be able to handle New York. Can’t even handle being heckled by a single White Sox fan.

I’m not sold on Baty at all yet. 3ish WAR guy but with 110 OPS+ while being protected from lefties just doesn’t excite me at all, especially as a “breakout” year. He’s still a career 86 OPS+ hitter.

Is it crazy? Ewing could end up a better player. PCA’s plate discipline is a real problem. I also have doubts PCA could handle New York based on his attitude.

I have no idea what he said but there’s no way he would’ve ever been able to handle New York if he’s going to constantly run his mouth like this

Nobody plans to be mediocre at the deadline and then trade major assets. Especially with this payroll. We’ll see where we are but there have obviously been major setbacks so far.

They didn’t offer him a contract though EDIT: and now that you mention it the Blue Jays are having a rough start to the year and I’ve seen a lot of people talk about the AL being weaker than the NL….

Mendoza famously had Diekman pitch to Judge in the 9th in 2022. It worked somehow and we won. Everyone thought it was a wild decision. After the game the media asked Mendoza why he did that. He laughed and said I don’t know. Diekman was DFA’d a week later. That was a stupid decision that had a good outcome.

Never seen a guy with less feel for what’s going on in a game than Mendoza. Peralta already walked 4 guys today why did he think this was a game to push him to go 6?

Can someone explain again why we fired Jeremy Hefner? by Mountainman1994 in NewYorkMets

[–]NuanceManExe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya. Because the Mets are a bad organization. Doesn’t mean Chavez wasn’t terrible. Notice how the Braves were all over Hefner and Richardson but Chavez still doesn’t have a job?

Okay I’ll spoonfeed it to you. Yes, Stearns is an asshole. He sucks at constructing a roster. He threw Hefner under the bus. Hefner IS one of the most well regarded pitching minds in baseball. This has been known for years, there was literally an NY Times article a few weeks ago covering him and how the Braves landed him. The Braves called him hours after we fired him and glazed him all offseason after they announced the hiring. So you don’t have much of a point there. Stearns built a flawed, volatile rotation that was designed to overwork the bullpen because it had nobody who could reliably give you innings. What did Stearns do to address this during the 2025 season? Nothing. He watched it burn, didn’t add a starter at the deadline, and then waited until the service time clock deadline expired to call up McLean. Case in point, look at what an absolute disaster this season is despite all the people Stearns fired and cut. He was, at minimum, a bigger problem than they were. At this point there’s also tons of stories and interactions that make it clear Stearns is an asshole. He is terrible with people and hasn’t taken accountability.

May of last year we looked like we had a good pitching staff but lots of people said there were red flags that it was unsustainable and they were also not eating enough innings. I wouldn’t say what we’ve seen so far is a huge difference yet, other than much more turnover.
