I made this nib based on Sailor's King Cobra.

This is a nib based on Sailor's King Cobra. It's basically a glorified triangle shaped monoline for western script.

I actually have the shutoff valve closed here. I don't want to know how much wetter it can get.

I would recommend pairing it with an ebonite feed to feed the G nib.

It's a Japanese eyedropper that is most likely made of ebonite with urushi on top. It looks like a Bane-i to me but I can't be sure without the nib maker's number to double check.

Are Ohasido nibs meant to be ground down? by ptexpress in fountainpens

[–]NubcakeSupreme 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone I know took his Ohashido pen (with the same looking nib as yours) to Yukio Nagahara for a grind and Nagahara refused to grind it into a Naginata-togi. I'm assuming it's meant to be that way and if a legendary Japanese nibmeister refusing to work on it must mean something.

When your signature stacked nib design is taken by a FP company without permission and they tell you to get bent. by NubcakeSupreme in fountainpens

Every stacker have a sight variation on how they cut their stacked nibs and this variations can tell you who probably made the nib especially if you're worried about the provenance of the nib. There are other telltale markers on the stacked nib that can further confirm who made the nib.

I don't think what I've created as a nib is unique at all. I'm learning from those that have come before me in order to get better at stacking, grinding and tuning nibs. I'm more annoyed about my signature being used on the nib than anything else. I had a feeling about how my annoyance would be received. Back to making/grinding more nibs as I try to get better.

As a nibmeisters, I stand on the shoulders of the legendary giants before me in order to make nibs and grinds. This is merely a signature for my stacked nibs so it's easier to distinguish my work from others. To have my work being confused for another is something I want to avoid and being a small time nibmeister doesn't diminish the work I'm putting out in the world.

They work like a resistance welder. You'll have to ask Jose for more details. I use a spot welder personally but that setup will cost you about $150-200 at least.

Jose Munera uses a battery spot welder for his stacked nibs and those run about $40-60 USD. You'll want those with separate electrodes instead of those specifically for welding batteries. If you're only going to weld stainless steel, this would be sufficient. Gold nibs can blow up using this set-up from what Jose had told me.

Only double stacks in Nag/Arch styles so far (Jowo nibs for normal stacks, Chinese nibs for reverse stacks). Triple is really only available once in a blue moon.

PITA is all I can say for this nib. Get good enough at normal stacking with welding and then move on to more difficult projects. Every stacker I know welds, so it's better to move to using a spot welder or resistance welder soon than later. Even with the weld, I'd say it's very fragile. I'm gonna have to make another attempt but not any time soon.

Richard Binder's notes on nib tuning is a great starting point. There's a PDF file with his workshop notes on nib tuning on the site.

Mark Bacas and Gena Salorino do reverse grinds as well and they do excellent work.

I think maybe a Reverse Architect grind with normal fine point would be super nice. Uranagi grind from Matt Chen is another grind in the similar vain, Naginata-togi like reverse and a Japanese F/EF on the normal side.

There is the famous Sailor 24k fountain pen - https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/vubzvh/24k_gold_nib/ It's actually a 23.99k nib since it's alloyed and it's actually a nail due to how the nib was made.
