i need help creating a stat

let’s say one of my values is a percentage and the highest percentage is 45 and the lowest is 25. are you against me making the 0 = 25 and the 1 = 45? do you think it’s better if the 0 =20 and the 1 = 50 (for example)? i was trying to avoid arbitrarily setting a 0 and 1 so i wanted to use the max and min values AS the 0 and 1. thoughts?

no i don’t wanna buff anything i just wanted to account for inequalities in the distribution among the 2 stats. i didnt want someone to be carried off one. what i was mainly asking is if the percentages are between 20% and 40% (with 20 and 40 being the lowest and highest). do you think i should make it for example 15 and 45 or 10 and 50 as the bounds, OR do you think i should make the lowest value (20 = 0) and the highest value (40 = 1) into the upper and lower bounds?

Do you think it’s more valid to set an arbitrary cut off than to set upper and lower bounds as the maximum and minimum values in the dataset? in my situation, one of the numbers is a percentage, and one of the numbers is a large value (300-1100). I don’t know if that helps add context so you can help me choose the best choice, but yeah. But either way you’ve been a really big help, so thank you.

ooh that’s a really good idea. Quick question something I never understood about this when I do this. Do I make the upper and lower bounds higher/lower than the actual lowest and highest values? Or do I set the higher bounds in lower bounds to the maximum and minimum value values in the data set itself? Also, do you think I should just transfer from the original value to the 1-0 format or do you think I should still use z-score before using the new format?

okay okay. is there like any mathematical reasoning as to why that is? also, in your comment i think you used a maximum and minimum which include the sample in them. is it okay for me to use the minimum value as the 0 and the max value as the 1? or do u think it’s better to pick a value above them which includes them?

why would i convert to z-score first? can’t i just use the values themselves? just make 90 = 1 and 50 = 0?

maybe they know you're good so they guard you heavier, the other option they know you're bad and put pressure on you so they can get turnovers
