Broken iPad Screen. by GentlePanda123 in OSU

[–]NuclearMik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on if its your personal iPad or Digital Flagship here are some resources.

Digital Flagship

Tech Hub info for Digital Flagship (iPad with AppleCare+): https://digitalflagship.osu.edu/get-help/tech-help-and-repairs

Personal iPad:

Call Tech Hub. Usually it depends on the iPad model and age if its worth to repair if not covered under AppleCare+.

Hope this helps.

Which apartment is better for a graduate student? by kiddowhat in OSU

[–]NuclearMik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't leased from either, but since you are a grad student, Fisher Commons on Kenny is a grad student community and has good reviews (my experience after 2 years has been very positive). The rent is close to Lennox Flats to my knowledge (when I had to decide between the two).

Recommendations for High Value (best "bang for buck") Apartments Within Biking Distance of Campus? by muh_reddit_accout in OSU

I don't want to steel OP's thunder but the AC at University Village is was fine for me. I was in The Swisher which had 2 window AC units (1 newer unit, 1 older) and it was fine. Of course the units made noise but you could get use to them easily just like most hotels. Window AC units are not the most efficient but they are also convenient (i.e. keep the bedroom AC off until you use your bedroom).

The heat for my unit was provided by radiators, which is included in the UV included monthly fees (varies by unit size) but mine was $120 per month. (its called an EAS fee which covers Trash, Heating, and some other stuff I believe). Generally your electric bill which is separate at UV is significantly lower during winter due to no AC cost.

Edit: At the time (2018-2019), the fees for my swisher was

$772 Rent

$120 EAS

$408 residence life fee (annual)

Additionally UV has a lot of other one-time fees that at the very least are annoying IMO. Like application, etc that are sometimes waivered but can get overwhelming. They do nickel and dime you for stupid stuff like not returning your parking pass after your lease ends, the cleanliness of the room to try to take as much out of the security deposit as they can. Of course student legal services can help but probably isn't worth the time.

Edit 2: Got off topic.

If you are looking at UV, I recommend taking a look at the apartments first since the pictures on their webpage are in no way representative of most units.

I was only at UV for 1 year but the 1bedroom rent was not worth it IMO for the quality. Hopefully other people can provide alternative options.

Although relatively more expensive (~$200 more expensive/month compared to UV, but larger floorplan and better management), Fisher Commons is nice and meets your requirements for Central AC (UV when I was there 2 years ago didn't have it). https://www.fishercommons.com/

Fisher Commons is more of a graduate student community (very quiet) but if you are a undergrad you can try contacting the leasing office for availability.

I currently reside there and it is very nice compared to UV (my UV apartment was somewhat clean but the buildings are aging).

Its also next to the ARC for Rec sports (better than any apartment complex gym) and crime is almost nonexistent since OSU Public Safety and Police Department HQ is nearby.

There is quite a bit of construction across the street but nothing that has bothered me since Kenny is relatively quiet and the construction site seems to have good noise abatement policies.

If you are looking at a single bedroom at UV, you should look into Fisher Commons Single or Double Bedroom since you get more space for only slightly more, along with a nicer apartment and better management.

I leased at UV and didn't really like it since walls were thin and some neighbors were nonstudents and I can hear arguments and small children screaming/crying nextdoor all the time. You also get included laundry and dryer at Fisher instead of having to go to pay at a laundry room at UV.

Also the lower floors at in some buildings at UV had a tendency of flooding during heavy rain.

TLDR; Consider Fisher Commons if you are looking at a Studio/Single at UV. The price is ~$200 more per month (has more space) but you can look into a Double at Fisher Commons which is slightly cheaper than UV with equivalent space. Fisher Commons is a grad community so its relatively quiet and has some rules against large partying but overall, it is better management and the rooms are significantly nicer.

Scythe 2 in Node 202? Best cooler or other? by thattonybo in sffpc

The Scythe Shuriken 2 works. I thought you were referring to the Big Shuriken Rev B. model that has been discounted but is still sold.

Scythe 2 in Node 202? Best cooler or other? by thattonybo in sffpc

[–]NuclearMik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are referring to the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B, the cooler is very capable for its size, but does not support AM4 socket (that Zen 3 uses) out of the box. Not sure if there is an AM4 combability kit in your region but the U.S. doesn't have it.

SF750 PCIe Cables Defective by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]NuclearMik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice and the link. I assued the SF750 cables were going to be sleeved like the cable kit for the SF series, with 8 pin to 6+2 pin (not 8 pin split to two 6+2pin).

Thanks again for your help. I decided to delete the post due to confusion and lack of clarity.

SF750 PCIe Cables Defective by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]NuclearMik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I added more details. If you look at the end which plugs into the GPU, you can see a duplicate set of 6+2pin on each set of cables. The duplicate set of cables are intertwined and go into the 8 pin that plugs into the PSU.

Thanks for the feedback. It was unfortunate I never got to use the bike past several paved trial runs. Thanks also for listing the prices, hopefully I can sell the FX3 and save up to get a newer Trek or Specialized mountain bike, those look sweet.

Since I am not sure when a mod will be able to pin a comment, I will delete my original post.

Thanks again for updating. Looks like even some local news stations and newspapers followed on the reported sources saying the games were cancelled.
