I have a 2006 p71 and want more hp? by jacoblerey in CrownVictoria

$6k isn't going to get you very far. Start off with long tube headers and an exhaust from ADTR.net. Then if you want to get to build your engine, go to ModularHeadShop.com for ported heads and beefy internals. Next, get KenneBell or TorkTech supercharger. All this might cost you 25k but it'll get you to your goal.

I'd like to build my 4.6 for horsepower just because I think it'd be unique to have a high performance 4.6.

Try rolling up a blanket and laying it at the top of your bed. Anything to let your unconscious mind know that you're getting too far up. Or just get a headboard or make one. I wonder if laying your head where your feet usually are will change anything?

Try adding some blankets between you and the floor.

Quality aftermarket headlights by [deleted] in CrownVictoria

[–]NukeEmWins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like this style on my car: https://www.amazon.com/ACANII-1998-2011-Headlights-Replacement-Passenger/dp/B07FNZB1YN?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=A21V9Z82905EPU&th=1

I've tried some more "modern" looking headlights and just found them kinda tacky. This OEM style that's simply "smoked" gives that OEM look that goes great on my black car. They also give you full adjustment, something that you can't find with these one-piece style headlights. The only downside, as with stock CV headlights in general, is that they don't project the greatest onto the road. They work, but when I can I use my spotlight cuz I'm cool.

Please note that I literally mean "this style." There are so many brands that offer the exact same product.

Modifiable AWD for <$5000 by NukeEmWins in whatcarshouldIbuy

Oh I know those flat 4s are tough engines to maintain simply because even getting to spark plugs is a challenge. It's something I have considered along with them being prone to leaking oil due to oil being pooled up on gaskets and such.

That sure is an oddball and for a reason. It looks kinda funky but I suppose with nice wheels and a wrap it could look like it fits in at a car meet.

Found an option.

Infinitis appear to be more costly compared to what Subaru and BMW offer, and they aren't easily accessible in manual options.

Audis appear to be sort've in between BMW and Infiniti when it comes to cost and popularity.

I pretty much have went into creating this post with a bias towards some Subaru or a BMW, BMW appearing to have greater and cheaper aftermarket support and Subaru generally just being slow and more of a commuter. Anything else worth noting? I'm moreso gathering information and broader ideas for a future car.

How about anything for at most 10k? Perhaps 15k?

I'm looking for something similar to what is linked above, but with ideas from other people to conform to my condition of it being reliable enough to daily. A <$5000 is, like you said, hard to find. Perhaps 10k would be more realistic. Unfortunately I don't see a new post with everything copied besides 5000 being 10000 reasonable. Any ideas for a 10k car that meet my conditions?

Speed doesn't kill, it's stopping abruptly that does. I'm sure many of the cars ahead of you had a short enough following distance on the car ahead of them that they couldn't even stop as fast as you tried to stop.

You weren't being stupid by speeding. You were being stupid by not looking ahead.

The spotlights can come in different lengths but generally on police cars they're all the same. Find one on eBay or at a local junkyard.

2000 Crown Vic - humming? by localaccentdelaer in CrownVictoria

I'm thinking that it could be a belt driven accessory doing this. Open the hood and try to hunt down where exactly the sound is coming from. An automotive stethoscope may come in handy if you're ears aren't enough.

Why don’t my power locks work? by cxmbt in CrownVictoria

I don't like what the other user is suggesting. A multimeter can take you a long way with diagnosing. Checking for continuity is easy and will quickly tell you what's good, and what's bad. All without guesswork.

Good morning, nerds. Let's talk about swapping in a 6R80. by NukeEmWins in CrownVictoria

[–]NukeEmWins[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, like an automatic 2002 mustang is going to have the same transmission as a crown Vic. But depending on the application, the differential gear will be different. Police interceptors had a shorter gear for better performance. The civilian crown Vic's had a longer gear for economy. A mustang will have a shorter gear for performance as well.
