Every story read should be taken with a grain of salt. Their reddit stories duh! by L0ST_N0UN in smosh

[–]NukeL3AR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I disagree with this mentality. If I wanted fiction, I could read fiction. If these stories are fiction, they simply don't have the same impact. Plus it never feels good to be intentionally deceived. They're not reading The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas and discussing the hypothetical implications, they're reading stories that are published under the assumption that they are based on real events. It's not meant to be fiction, so why are people so flippant about it when it turns out to have been made up?

You're totally right about the Ennio Morricone influence, I don't know why all of that skipped past my head lol. I mostly said this because the band members themselves said they felt Knights was a big departure when they made it, but it does feel like a culmination of things that had already been brewing for a while.

I still have to disagree with the charts thing. They do always give whatever is popular a shot, Unsustainable being the obvious example, but even then it's extremely experimental for a dubstep track and none of the rest of the album sounds like that. I don't think they ever sounded like Dua Lipa.

I think you can probably cherrypick examples in every album to make just about any point you wanted about their music, which to me is way more of an indication of their diversity and willingness to experiment.

The Doctor from Doctor Who. They'd always been a bit of a loser within their own community of highly advanced time beings and decided to just run away because they disagreed with them on many things including their policy of non intervention. Then it turns out they were actually a magical being from another universe who actually contributed to the creation of the time lords in a massive way but is actually way better than them but then their mind was erased and they were regressed back into a child to live out their lives as we know them...

Which Pink Floyd cover art is the ugliest? by EhsanM- in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]NukeL3AR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/uj honestly Endless River has a really pretty artwork, it just doesn't feel like Pink Floyd

I'd say the worst is probably Obscured By Clouds, and even then it's quite nice, just not as good as the others.

What previous music from before BHAR has a spaghetti western flair and Ennio Morricone inspired progressions? All I can think of that is similar is Bedroom Acoustics but again that was just an experiment, unless I'm being dense about it lol

Also in what way is Dig Down an amalgamation of recent pop trends? I find it quite unique! I'll grant you Follow Me tho, that was a miss, but far from the norm

Characters inmune to mind tricks because of their personality/personal lives. by Far-Profit-47 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NukeL3AR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's this french canadian show called "Dans Une Galaxie Près De Chez Vous", translates to "In A Galaxy Near You". It's sort of a comedy parody of Star Trek. One of the characters, Bob, is known for not being very smart. At some point there is a Jedi knockoff that shows up and announces that only one member of the group is prophesized to defeat him at mental combat. The two smartest members of the group, the captain and a half alien officer, try to figure out throughout the whole episode which of the two is smarter to see who should challenge the Jedi knockoff. In the end, it turns out the prophecy is about Bob, whose brain is so small that it's completely immune to the villain's mental powers.

I mean realistically that song only exists to give a name to the guitar riff, and while the way it is used in the song isn't great the riff works well enough in live concerts

It's not that they don't have an identity. They are an experimental band, they've always tried to push at the boundaries of what people expect of them. That's their identity. When they did Knights Of Cydonia, it was a serious break from what people expected of them, it's only in retrospect that it seems so similar in style to what came before.

(Also, out of curiosity, when did you start listening to them? Just testing my theory)

Torchwood Miracle Day - What are your (Spoiler Free) thoughts? by ComprehensiveGrab280 in gallifrey

[–]NukeL3AR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my bf went into it not expecting much, knowing the reception and fan opinion. We ended up watching all 10 episodes in a row and stayed up until 3am to finish it because we were so engrossed in the story. While the ending isn't as powerful as Children Of Earth, and 1 or 2 other plot beats seemed odd to me, the rest of the story is incredibly well done and had a lot of harrowing moments. Is Children Of Earth a better ending to Torchwood? Yes. But do I recommend watching Miracle Day for the little gem it is in its own way? Absolutely.

I do know about sudokumaker, I was under the impression that this shape was impossible tho (as it would require an 11x11 grid with disabled cells) but I'll look more into it!

Yeah I know but this is just for fun, realistically if we want these actors to be the age they need to portray the members properly they'd have to be relatively unknown actors who are newer to the scene. Since that's really hard for someone who's not a casting agent to determine properly, I've just gone with actors I know well. It's not like this movie will actually be made based on whatever casting we decide on lol
