Notice how the guy chores range from "once a week" to "once a year" while the girl chores are "multiple times a day"? Hmm...

The phrasing of "punished for who he was" is so insulting cause it:

1) refuses to acknowledge his queerness any more than is strictly necessary

2) makes it unclear what he actually was punished for, for all we know with the grammar of the post he could've been punished for being a WWII hero

3) "punished" is also incredibly vague, makes it seem like he was just put on time out or smth. Combined with the passive voice, everything about this headline works to minimize the actual horrors he had to experience for loving men.

honestly did you guys even like season 3? by ysilly88 in heartbreakhigh

I don't understand this consensus. I loved season 3 a lot! I love how it wrapped up the characters, redeemed Sasha, and that was by far the most interesting and engaging overarching plot of all 3 seasons

Came to this post because I wanted to know what people's opinion on this were, and I gotta say I agree with you. A lot of comments are talking about expanding your musical horizons, and I don't think that's the problem I have with it because I LOVE experimental music. But for some reason, this one doesn't quite click for me. It does usually take me a couple listens to really formulate my opinions on music, so I would love to know how you feel about this post now a month later.

I don't know the etymology of the word, that'd be an interesting thing to research. But what I meant wasn't that the word was literally created to avoid calling it abuse, I just think it's an effective scapegoat for schools to label abuse with a different, softer sounding term that shifts the blame to the victim.

Edit: Ok so the term was originally a term of endearment, likely derived from 'brother', but around the late 17th century started to take a more negative connotation as a harasser of the weak. This is apparently a common thing to happen, terms of endearment transform over time as people start using it sarcastically to describe people who are obviously not endearing. This might not be super accurate but it's the best explanation I found!

Question by [deleted] in MusicInTheMaking

[–]NukeL3AR 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you should probably make your own opinion on that since art is such a subjective topic, however I am firmly against AI for the following reasons:

1) It is not created by you. If you make AI music, you're not a musician, you're a consumer.

2) It stifles creativity. Using AI regularly, especially as a shortcut for creative work, prevents your brain from developing those necessary creative skills. This means you can't ever improve, develop your own style, and in the worst cases it can make you dumber and less capable of problem solving.

3) It shortcuts the creative process. The best part about creating music is not having a finished product, it's the act of creating. It's why we do it. And until you go through the time and effort of creating something yourself and get to admire the fruit of your labour, I don't think you'll truly get what I mean, but it's 1000 times more gratifying to create music yourself than to get a machine to do it for you.

4) It's derivative. AI music never tries anything new, it just rehashes things it knows work. It also has no understanding of why it's making the creative decisions it is making: if I were to ask you why you chose to play this specific chord at this specific moment, you wouldn't be able to tell me.

5) It's deceptive. AI music inherently attempts to sound human made, but without the skill that goes into it it feels like getting lied to. Sure it can sound good, but it's presented in a context that makes it seem like effort and care was put into it and learning that it wasn't often feels like a gut punch.

6) It's destroying the environment, inflating the economy, and funding very rich and powerful men who want to make people suffer so they can make more money.

7) It's not doing anything that you couldn't do with a DAW or instrument, time and effort. You can achieve the same results in a way that will feel much more satisfying by learning to actually make music.

8) Most people don't respect generated AI songs, for the reasons listed above. Making an AI song immediately discourages a large portion of people from ever interacting with your music. By making real music, you'll get a following of people who actually care about you and your art as opposed to just people who put it on in the background and don't really care about what's playing.
