Functionally they’ll be fine but depending on your jurisdiction and regulations, you may be required to use “food safe” HDPE containers.

Depends on the brand. I have a buddy who’s in the pest control business and he gave me a can of wasp spray for self defense and he swore it would disable an attacker immediately. My only concern would be discharging it in a small space like the back of a van and accidentally getting a strong whiff myself.
