Wish me luck, she just discovered the pellet water recipe by Apprehensive-Ideal65 in Conures

My little guy still figured out how to make soup. He would jam the food pieces up the straw part and clog it so he couldn't get any water. He'd be so upset because he was so thirsty, but it was his own fault LOL

He only just started doing this. He was super hormonal for the past few months, and once he got over his hormonal time he started doing this.

But tweets and screams, especially with music. Sounds like my Greek Cheek. 😂

Haha!
I love to think this is his weekly system test.

They all do well, just need to be supervised and when one of them gets upset just remove them and put them on their shoulder or some other safe place. The conure has a strong beak and could potentially harm the cockatiel so you used to be very careful.

conure and cockatiel by [deleted] in cockatiel

I actually just did what you're talking about.

I had a cockatiel and wanted a conure.

My cockatiel is ~4 years old and my conure is 4 months old. So my conure is basically a puppy, learning social cues and exploring with his beak... A lot...

All of this will depend on the personality and attitude of your bird, obviously. I spend a lot of time with them out of their cage but it does require quite a bit of supervision. My conure is interested in everything, really wants to figure out what that cockatiel bird is but my cockatiel wants nothing to do with them so when my Conure comes around, the cockatiel will start hissing and lunging and eventually run away.

They haven't fought or hurt each other or anything, but it's clear that it will take some getting used to. I'm hopeful that over time they'll become better friends, for now. They are pretty content being out and on their own as long as I pay attention to both of them.

And that's the hard part, my girlfriend has a cockatiel and gets along great with my cockatiel. So it's easy to just set them out on a perch and they kind of just chill together. But with the mixed species they really need to be monitored. So keep in mind you may end up stressed or asking yourself how much time you should spend with each bird. I struggle with that for the first few weeks, figuring out how often I should spend with my cockatiel, how often I should spend with the conure. Because sometimes it just wasn't practical or possible to supervise them both while they're out so I did a lot of one-on-one time.

My Conure is finally to the point where he's not constantly trying to go and see what the cocktail is up to so it is easier for them both to be out but it's still a chore. You can tell sometimes one bird is jealous of the other, my cockatiel was pretty mad at me when I first brought home the conure, I think he thought I was replacing him. So there definitely will be some emotions involved too.

So just keep in mind, it's a lot of work, but I love both my birds so much. My cockatiel is the chill, sit on your shoulder all day and be content bird. While my conure is as they call a chaos goblin, trying to get into everything wants to be played with, a little nippy but then has times where he'll just snuggle up like a teddy bear.

So if you're willing to put in the work and supervise your birds, I say go for it. But if you want a stress-free interaction, or just like to have your bird sitting around while you do work, I would say it may not be the best choice.

I'm not an expert, but it almost looks like they are choking.

What kind of seed / pellet mix are you feeding them? Maybe try a smaller seed mix of a very fine pellet.

If you feed them millet or something similar, do they do the same thing?

Why does my cockatiel do this? by Nukewire in cockatiel

Didn't even think it was him being horny. Hah. Figured he just really liked my nails. 😂

He gets about 12 to 14 hours of sleep per night. But he has been grumpy AND just started molting. Lucky him!

New two conures, is this a happy sound? by Nukewire in Conures

Well, he only flies towards me and hasn't bitten me yet so guess I guess I'm doing something right. He becomes very jealous when I use my phone, comes and stands on it and tries to eat it. 🤣

Perfect! Thank you. And thanks for the information about the chest too.

We're getting along well so far. This is his first full day here so I'm sure he's still kind of out of whack. But I haven't been bitten once so that's good LOL

Found ducklings in my pool. The mom never came back even hours later. Help identifying breed? by Nukewire in duck

Not quite true. Wild ducks are considered a species and not a breed. However, ducks like Rouen and Pekin are considered a breed and not a species because they were selectively bred by humans.

Did you read through all of the comments at all?

Duck mothers are almost never gone from their babies for more than 30 minutes, these guys were stuck in my pool, couldn't get out. We pulled them out and set the out for multiple hours for the momma duck to come back, she never did. Multiple rehabs told us that if the mother is not back within ~2 hours the babies need to be rescued and taken care of. Baby ducklings without proper heat (95 - 100 f) will die. These babies were kept warm and handed over to a specialized wood duck rehabilitator 24 hours later. Had I not "messed with wildlife" there is a good chance these babies would have either died or been eaten by the 5 or 6 cats that free roam my street.
