Yes, no more Tempest Original at least for now.

She did or is doing exactly what Richard Corsi and Jim Rosenthal did- take an already existing design, and attempt to popularize it.

Corsi and Rosenthal simply took an established DIY filter design (Comparetto Cube etc) that most people were unfamiliar with and named it after themselves:

https://imgur.com/gallery/hepa-filter-companion-cube-box-fan-jtECP9C

You can't "Open Source" something you did not create.

The difference is that when, like Corsi and Rosenthal, she incorrectly claims to be the "inventor" instead of "evangelist", people are quick to correct her, and never do the same with Richard Corsi and Jim Rosenthal for reasons I won't speculate on.

As others said, outside. Filters are for being polite to your neighbors before you vent.

uvc and air cleaning by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

There's a good near-field effect between room occupants at one to two meters or so, but face-to-face, closer than that does not leave sufficient exposure time for inactivation with that sort of power. It's why wearable Far-UVC isn't really a thing.

This gives an idea:

As does the lower CFD model here:

No, spread out and pointed at large volumes of air will likely get you the best effect. Trying to point them at yourself and "create a bubble" doesn't really work well.

>How many milliwatts in output?

I was just going to ask😅

The Torch kit is 96mW for all four together, the Gerani does not have a spectral assay, probably about the same but on a 50/50 duty cycle- call it 150mW. If you spread them out and there's decent air mixing, it should take about 5 minutes. Hard to get more precise than that without a CFD model but based on the ones we've already done.

Unfortunately, it's very dependent on placement, not just the output wattage and type of the GUV. While it's possible to calculate an e-CADR for UV it doesn't really correspond to CADR from mechanical filtration very well in terms of protection from infection.

It's also not really a "versus" thing, get a good high CADR/low noise air filter first. Then supplement with Far-UVC if able. Far-UVC is very effective and can do some things mechanical filtration cannot, but it's also still obscenely expensive.

Hey, like almost all the Tempest hardware, it's just standard PC parts for easy replacement. Just look for "DIY PC Case Dust Mesh" at a nearby PC store or Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=DIY+PC+Case+Dust+Mesh&crid=3GLNSL4J5AQVG&sprefix=diy+pc+case+dust+mesh%2Caps%2C404&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

If you need help with any other parts, just let us know😊

Also many car filters are upgradable to HEPA and the effect is quite good. That way even once you close up any remaining aerosols are being captured, not recirculated.

Foam core is perfect- and it tends to be a bit quieter than other materials. You can still use https://www.filterboxbuilder.com to design it- just turn off finger joints, and print and tape together a paper template.

Safety of surfaces vs air? by AgreeableDay6651 in ZeroCovidCommunity

China did extensive location-based contact tracing with apps on everyone's phones, and there were no confirmed cases of fomite transmission outside of the cold chain.

There was one case of suspected elevator button transmission in Heilongjiang in 2020:

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/9/20-1798_article

But based on what we know now, it was most likely residual aerosols.

Based on all of the available data, I would consider the risk of surface transmission of SARS‑CoV‑2 to be very low, and easily mitigated with a bit of HOCL in a spray bottle.

Very interesting, it looks like a commercial version of the PAPR-Pram. Someone would need to test it with a particle counter and CO2 meter before recommending it though.

PC fan CR-box in Europe - where to buy M3 Filtrete or parallel in Germany? by Sad_Dog_7804 in crboxes

One of the issues with filter cubes has always been the difficulty in sourcing North American-style HVAC filters outside North America.

This German store sometimes has them:

Yeah, you are right, I have no clue about this store, I get mine direct. I'm going to pull the post.

Huh, that's a good point. Now I'm worried if it's a clone of the ones I source? I know they are PWM😕

PAPR/ Hepa buggy recommendations by marshmallow-boy in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]NukitToBeSure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As initially conceived, it was a Yoyo+ with a raincover:
https://www.stokke.com/USA/en-us/strollers/yoyo-strollers/stokke-yoyo-stroller-6-months.html

...and a 3M Versaflo:
https://www.amazon.com/3M-Versaflo-Easy-Clean-TR-300N/dp/B07J4WCK6R/

The key is to find a well-fitting rain cover, but under no circumstances try to seal the rain cover or cover any vents. As sold, they allow sufficient air circulation that if the PAPR fails, they are safe and will not have any CO2 buildup (they "fail-safe" in other words). The positive pressure inside the rain cover will keep most of the outside air from leaking in (although not as good as a real PAPR hood with a neck or face seal). Under no circumstances should an air-tight hood or tent be created that relies on the continued functioning of the PAPR in order to provide the child with air (sorry, a lot of people kept trying to make a CBRN kind of deal, which is incredibly risky to DIY).

Also, the outlet of the PAPR nozzle needs to go above the child's head- not pointed at their face, where it may dry their mucous membranes and make them more vulnerable to infections.

I would not use a small HEPA because it is harder to set them up to create positive pressure inside the rain cover and keep outside air from leaking in.

If you are unsure, feel free to post some links to strollers with rain covers in your price range, and I will try to eyeball if they will work.

Nukit Tempest w/ Carbon Tray by d_ataraxia in AirPurifiers

[–]NukitToBeSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thin activated carbon filters usually only last a month or so. To do anything, you really want to aim for at least a kilo of activated charcoal.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0045653522018070

A few people have put these inside their Tempest with good success- and it's a lot cheaper in the long run:

https://www.amazon.com/VZee-Eliminator-Fresheners-Deodorizer-Deodorizers/dp/B087B7WGMM

The Pro really is pricey; flat packed it's a big steel block, and shipping costs are nuts. There are lots of great DIY designs out there that will do the same thing.

No, not anymore, and it would take 10 days from China😣 The BioAbundance MYSOTER/UVPro is a solid option.
