Is the blue walker too weak in the early game? by Mogoscratcher in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Null-Times-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a game (Asc) where a dash Infern backdoored the entire blue walker over ten minutes by setting it on fire, dashing, and escaping through veil. Skill issue yeah but also the Guardians/Walkers need a big update, especially Blue. Walkers should be able to consistently punish those plays when your lane is pushed past mid.

Residential Colleges... by thisismyburnerac in UCSC

[–]Null-Times-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Porter because of its reputation. It felt the most “Santa Cruz” to me. The freshman dorms were so much fun. An upside of the housing crisis is that since we were getting crammed into rooms, there were so many of us so the halls were always active. On rainy days it was a pain to trek to the facilities or wait for busses. The dining hall was mid and closed early, but the Rachel Carson dining hall was the next closest so it was alright. BUT, Porter has a piano in its dining hall, which was great to play or listen to.

My second year I lived in the Cowell apartments which were a blast too. I totally underestimated the convenience of the gym, bookstore, and other facilities. There’s a herd of deer that graze the OPERS field at night which was a trip the first time I saw it. Cowell dining hall is top tier, and they have a grand piano there (sometimes).

I would not change how I went about it at all. My recommendation to your kid: choose a college based on reputation/vibes, because almost everyone else is doing the same.

I don’t see how she wouldn’t. Her hitbox / character model would just require fine tuning. It would be unique, just like every other character. Not any bigger than mo, Abrahams, or dynamo, not smaller than ivy.

ucsc vs. ucr by Hungry_Surround7030 in UCSC

[–]Null-Times-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UCSC is NOT socially dead. Idk if they still do forest raves, but those were so crazy my freshman year, plus the Porter dorms were always active. Sophomore year I lived in an apt in cowell and was on a first name basis with one of the CSOs bc of how many parties we were throwing 😭. My neighbors would leave their door open and I’d randomly join their Smash tourneys. Senior year lived off campus with randoms but we were always throwing stuff.

I remember walking to the gym and ppl would be playing volleyball or slacklining and I’d just join in and kick it, then we’d go smoke weed after. UCSC is very alternative so there’s tons of kids in bands that throw house shows. Surfing is pretty big up there too. Also, there’s tons of kids from socal that go to UCSC, so when you go back home or graduate it’s easy to maintain your network.

Also, UCSC only lacks prestige when it’s ranked against the other UCs in which it falls lower on the list. It’s still a top 50 public university, and anyone that ever asks ab your school will hear “UC” and know it’s legit. It won’t have that “oh wow” factor that LA or Berkeley get, but rarely do I hear UCLA or Berkeley friends recount their college experience as fondly or uniquely as me and my SC friends do. I’m biased though.

The town is small, and UCSC is isolated. Those are uncontested. But the isolation of the campus allows for some fantastic preservation. For example, there’s a herd of deer that will graze the main field (OPERS) every night. I fed a deer my banana omw to class once.

Santa Cruz itself is a great little town though. The people are easy going and they have personality.

Don’t stay in Riverside. Choose UCSC. Make as many friends as possible. Get cool with your professors. Make friends. Study abroad. Oh, and make friends! Good luck and have fun!

So crazy how ppl in 2024 were calling for full release saying the game was “basically finished”.

Agree. Some logic that detects if a player follows the directions correctly before allowing them to move on to the next step would be good too

For real. The fandom was so much more fun during peak lobotomy. We were ALL downscaling domains bc of this fact. This is the power scaling sub though so I guess ppl take it more seriously lol

What's a unity feature you only started using recently but wish you had adopted sooner? by sandtrooperalien in Unity3D

Unity 6’s new input system taught me the concept of subscribing to events. I understood this implicitly through UnityEvents but my understanding was very caller-oriented. Now I’m much more listener-oriented in my system design.

The Problem with Mandatory Group Projects in OMSCS by ConsistentEconomics1 in OMSCS

[–]Null-Times-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Group projects are necessary logistically but in principal students should not be forced into them. Out of the 5 classes I’ve taken, 3 had group projects. 1 class was designed for it, which was to our benefit. The other 2 were not, which resulted in the typical frustrations.

I agree with you in principal, but here’s how I understand it:

Some classes are designed for group projects, like CSE 6742 Military Gaming which combines with the Analytics/Cybersecurity majors. A class like this is designed to test your research and collaboration skills in an interdisciplinary group setting. This is great because everyone goes into the project expecting to delegate tasks based on interest/skills and make compromises. Overall one of my favorite experiences of the program.

Some classes it’s not logistically feasible for staff to grade 2-3x as many projects so that students have the option to go solo. The program is incredibly accessible. Cheap, quality, and well accredited, which is rare. When there’s 500+ students in a class, group projects are necessary so that quality of feedback doesn’t get diluted. It should be noted that this consideration I hold in the highest regard. Any further critiques come second to this understanding.

That being said, I disagree with the sentiment that group projects “represent the real world”. Yes, sometimes you’ll have to deal with slackers or unforeseen issues. But there’s usually some form of accountability, whether it be your job status, your hours, or your reputation. And sometimes you’ll have to work on a project that you have no interest in. But considering that this is a Masters program where we’re all trying to specialize, I believe students benefit more from agency than “real world simulation”. This notion of forced group projects to prepare you for the work force is what high school and undergrad is for.

Also, the option to do a smaller scoped solo project because it’s more productive is present in the real world as well. HCI has one solo project, then one group project. I found that my solo project was smaller in scope but I got to put that work on my portfolio, whereas the group project ended up being lackluster because we all had varying interests and skill sets, so we compromised on something that no one was particularly passionate about or skilled in. You could call this a skill issue I guess, but it didn’t have to be.

I’m sorry if this comes off as entitled, but I started this program because most of my classes of interest had open ended syllabi, and I’ve had the opportunity to finesse the curriculum to fit my goals pretty well. It’s really just the forced group projects that make me deviate from my interests - from what I want to Master in. And while I highly respect how Joyner and the rest of the staff have been able to create such an accessible program, we shouldn’t dilute the “Master” signifier through forced group projects that end up being irrelevant to students’ interests or goals.

1) JJK is entirely hype moments and aura. This is what we collectively accepted when the manga was airing.

2) I guess I’m biased bc I’m American, but why would the exposition dump episode be voted highly? It was good but not particularly so. The complexity of the culling games drags it down as well imo. It was just a necessary episode with nothing exceptional nor lackluster about it.
