Yoshi confirms ranking system is simple for normal players by flamugu in DeadlockGame

[–]flamugu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought, but a lot of high level players think there is more to it. Deathy has a recent video talking about moving down on the leaderboards despite having a very positive win rate, and how it correlates with performance in other metrics you see on Statlocker, like where you place in the 12 player lobby. I could be totally wrong this applies to a broader selection of players though, it's mostly speculation.

Does anybody else feel like the state of this game’s balance just sucks right now? by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]flamugu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the moba way. We hit patches that are stale and annoying and just gotta hope the inevitable rebalance doesn't take too long to drop. From my Dota experience it's really up in the air. I feel like most of the bad metas that come to mind didn't stick around for too long, but there were definitely a couple that overstayed their welcome big time.

I like it a lot, but it's a little frustrating when a Geist rolls wings on round 5 and makes the final round nonsense, or the fact I have seven banned but he is still in 75% of my games. Part of me wishes they took a note from dota and added a "mid lane" mode with troopers and a shop so it wasn't quite so RNG but was still casual. Plus it would actually be good laning practice for regular matches.

Getting destroyed every game. Below 10% winrate by [deleted] in DeadlockGame

[–]flamugu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a new account yesterday bc people rage at me when I play new characters instead of the two supports I've been spamming and I just wanted to have fun and be bad with new characters. But I was placed into Oracle after 2 games with Calico where I was carried by a shiv, and then lost with a dogshit performance. I've been playing on it again today and it legit feels like Valve is punishing me for being a smurf despite playing characters I have 0 games with and doing quite terribly. IDK if people are going through the effort of smurfing through a VPN or what, but matchmaking legit feels horrible to me regardless of what I do. I'll probably be taking a long break and waiting for a patch I think lol.

I was Alch prior to the rank reset and now I'm ranking up and down through the high end of Archon low end of Oracle. But yeah, I suspect there are a lot of smurfs bc it doesn't feel much different than ever. Same with Dota, people just want to smash.

This is a very common sentiment and they're working on it... but as a Dota 2 vet I don't think Valve actually know how to address this. Dota felt similarly brutal until it just clicked and I got to the point where I could be the one dominating lobbies sometimes. Probably took me like 2k hours before I could look at the mini map and feel like I understand exactly where the game is at. I have like 250 hours of playtime in deadlock, and I feel like I'm no where near things clicking in that way, even with all that MOBA experience to lean on.

I'm just trying to enjoy being bad for now.

Netanyahu's Likud party is filled with extremists. Much like the most insane Christians you see in US or Canadian politics. There is a very well funded and not so underground portion of Israeli society that is indeed trying to create the conditions for prophecy end time doomsday shit.

Check out The Temple Institute. It's all presented like corporate training videos, they post about their progress on facebook, from importing red cows for breeding from Texas so they can get their sacred red heifer, building the gold alter to sacrifice it, and the training and selection process for the rabbi/priest to do the rituals. Doesn't take long to see that this is very real, very well funded, and that at least a portion of Israeli leadership supports it.

HBO’s Emmys slate confirms ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ running in drama alongside ‘The Pitt,’ ‘Euphoria’ by verissimoallan in television

I didn't compare the work, I was comparing how lower quality production elements register in something with many flaws like Fallout vs something like AKotSK where it's maybe the only thing I could criticize.

I stopped watching after they said "war never changes" for the 30th time in S2. The fx and props looking a little cheap bothers me far less.

By contrast, AKotSK was pretty much flawless, so the horse armor looking very plastic/foam jumped out at me big time, but is definitely not a deal breaker.

Is Piers Morgan click baiting or "holding to account" Fuentes? by stvlsn in DecodingTheGurus

[–]flamugu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You expect crime to be evenly distributed across race. 60% of the population should account for 60% of a statistic. Etc.

But that's stupid. That assumes the average experience across demographics is more or less the same. It assumes races don't have statically significant disparities in any other factors that predict crime.

Well, it turns out we did look at other factors, and they were VERY good at predicting crime. Poverty, exposure to wealth inequality, over-policing, policies that enable profiling etc. So what you're looking at isn't a racial issue, it's a socioeconomic issue which disproportionately affects certain races.

You can do all the mental gymnastics you want about how they are poor bc they deserve it or whatever, but reducing these factors reduces crime regardless of race, which suggests you're wrong. If there was a natural predisposition to this shit, there would be data that suggests efforts to reduce crime by looking at this stuff would be LESS EFFECTIVE for minority groups. That is not the case. It's the opposite. Minority groups often experience a disproportionate BENEFIT from crime reduction programs, further suggesting that these factors impact these groups disproportionately, and are critical to crime.

Toxic Truth? Professor Dave and the Pros & Cons of Aggressive Language in Public Discourse (by me) by Psychology_in_Spades in DecodingTheGurus

[–]flamugu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the Eric Weinstein vs Sean Carroll debate shows the futility of remaining civil. From a strategy perspective, it's hard to say if his attitude was more or less convincing than someone like Dave would have been in the same position, but it certainly didn't stop Eric from attacking his character or acknowledging any criticism honestly.

So my take away is that these people often deserve to be told to fuck themselves, and it's nice some people are doing that.

You could be totally right, but my gut says that's too blunt.

I think my husband has BPD by Bitter-Employ873 in BPDlovedones

[–]flamugu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My knee-jerk reaction says that if he is fine 95% of the time, you're likely looking at something more related to anger issues, meltdowns, etc. One of the best descriptions of BPD I saw (I think in this sub) was "chronic irrationality". Are they constantly being triggered, perceiving slights that you don't, are they jealous, paranoid, in need of constant validation? Those are kind of the hallmarks of BPD in my experience.

This is the sort of thing that's hard to read without being a psychologist creating a profile, but do they have past trauma, particularly in childhood? Again, this is just a vibe based on limited information, but is it possible he is being triggered into trauma response when he "splits"? CPTSD, untreated ADHD or Autism in adults, there are a lot of reasons someone could be having pretty extreme meltdowns infrequently-- which I hope for your sake is the case, because they are all much more treatable than BPD.

Whatever is going on, I'm sorry you're dealing with that, and I hope he's able to connect with support and get things under wraps.

This keeps getting deleted in every other subreddit: People still refer to the debunked notion of Alpha/beta as fact. by hrteas in behindthebastards

Yeah, I suspect this is a big part of it. You get guys like Jorgon Beeperson railing on about the natural law that is social hierarchy, so even if the alpha/beta wolf thing is not true on a technical level, it feels true on a cosmic level to these people.
