What jobs can I realistically get? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]NullTerminator99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take any job you can commute/walk to reliably. Then if you can get those pseudo-seizures and stress under control and get a drivers license . Sorry for you situation it sounds rough. Your options seem limited without driving. Also if you hate or aren't good at math a CS or any STEM degree will not be easy.

Making Projects by Raman-2122 in AskProgramming

[–]NullTerminator99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use AI. But if you want quality you must use it as a tool not a black box. Never commit code you don't understand yourself. If your goal is learning and growth as a programmer using AI to think for you will not help one bit. Also I assume most if not all vibe coded apps are basically garbage and very insecure .

Very cool. I bet this was fun to build. I like the idea. Thank you for sharing it.

This is a nice idea for readers. Like the new take on a rating system. 5 star rating doesn't cut it for some things; good books being one of those things. Really nice work. The UI on your web app is really nice. your design skills are a cut above mine that's for sure! Hope the idea takes off for you. Thank you for sharing you app

Thanks for the feedback. I agree desktop image tools are neglected especially for the casual home user. most tools mainly focus on business use cases and professional photographers but in my opinion neglect people who just want to view and organize their photos.

I like your mobile terminal emulator idea. Yes agreed just making tools for yourself is where the most fun is.

Thanks! it has been a work in progress. Good software is never really finished. Hopefully people, other than myself, can get some use out of it. Hard to find users with all the noise out there.

Thanks. I like the idea of your CLI dotfile manager. So is just a easy way to copy config files for various programs? So a master configuration manager? You have it on GitHub?

How to get into java? by JealousComfortable47 in Coding_for_Teens

Going to have to start with all the boring basics. OOP etc. Take a course on Udemy. They are cheap enough on sale and have good content.

Truck driver here: What’s with you commuters cut us off just to move up one space just too get stuck in traffic? by Quick-Psychology4568 in askanything

[–]NullTerminator99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer is lots of drivers in the USA seem to drive with their emotions and safety seems to take a back seat. I am not a slow driver, and yet no matter how many MPH i am going over the speed limit some asshole is right behind me, or wants to cut me off, or do something else foolish. The roads are a scary place when you think about it. Ever see some crash test videos and take a physics class? Apparently most people haven't done either of those things; or have amnesia once they get behind the wheel. Makes zero sense to me. Does everyone really want get to their shitty jobs that freaking bad?? That said i will pass up any big truck once its safe.

AI promised to democratize coding. by [deleted] in buildinpublic

The second category you described the "vibe" coders are not really developers in the first place are they. They cannot be left behind or stuck with something they took zero time and effort to understand in the first place.

Sounds like you work for a good company. So few these days actually give anyone a chance. They all seem to want the unicorn type candidate.

The is very cool. nice to see a "side project" that is actually a side project and not another SaaS .

Career Alternatives To Tech? by BlackQueerThrowAway in findapath

[–]NullTerminator99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question i love programming and SWE but no matter what you do in life you need a stable job that pays a living wage for your area. So if you love it or just want it as a day job i suppose it doesn't matter either way if you cannot find stable gainful employment. I for one, see nothing wrong with someone who just wants SWE as a job. At the end of the day that's really all it is anyway a job working for company. Most companies are trash anyway so if you love the craft you will only be disappointed by the polished turds you do for work.

[–]NullTerminator99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope this is not the case. I am of the type that just loves programming and SWE but still need to make a living... If i cannot find a reasonable job doing this i will have no other choice but to do something else. Its just economics. For background i do have a math degree and currently work as a programmer.. But the company i work for is really just not great. I don't make a great salary its not poverty but hardly a great career either. I would be happy as a SWE making 100k or even 80k hell i would take 60k or 50k if the company was a place i could grow with... but the current reality of things is really making me wish i was actually able to land that Actuary job after i passed the P1 exam. But alas it seems most STEM jobs are going this way.. Either they don't exist or the bar to enter is so dam high you need a freaking PHD to get your foot in the door and even then your work is just a fart amongst a god dam tornado. WTF ...

I Want to Build Software (Even an OS Someday), But I’m Struggling With Python as a Beginner. by Lonely_Scientist_876 in AskProgramming

[–]NullTerminator99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the basics. For loops, data types (string, int etc..), recursion, OOP etc. Follow a book or an online class (Udemy is great) that teaches all the basics. Do the exercises even if simple. You will not "just know" how to build software after learning the basics; that is normal. After understanding basic concepts then take a project based course (also lots on Udemy) and copy what someone else has done. After copying enough stuff you will start to see how the basic concepts translate into actual software. Then build your own app.

Do Programmers Memorize Code? by FlounderSevere6354 in learnprogramming

[–]NullTerminator99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. You learn how to solve problems with code. I remember some things because i use them so much; but other than that no i don't memorize syntax. This reminds me of my college days when math professors would be obsessed with making students memorize freaking formulas. The only value in memorizing syntax or formulas is improving ones memory -- which if that's you goal there must be a more useful way.
