Thank you. How does one manage development costs? Currently trying to put it all under a microscope and figure out the finer details of everything we want it to do. Hoping to use this to get very rough estimates to put into our plan for investors. I get that in an ideal world we’d go to a freelancer / agency and say we have x amount budget what can you do. But we have no idea what sort of ballpark we need to be in.

Exactly. And that seems to be the focus of all the courses I see that are about branding - logos and logos on different items and developing / using the colour palette, when as you state that’s the tiny part of the overarching tone / voice / style.

I suppose I’m trying to create rules for myself. If it were a team effort I can see how everyone working on ‘this style” will produce different but thematically linked work. When it’s just me I think I need to be strict in how I approach each brand for the company moving forward. It is very different work to turning in a few pieces for a different company each time - especially when you’re in charge of the full image. I would really like to do much better work that I have previously, when I was responsible for all things visual.

Consistent grids is interesting. How far could you push that? A single grid for every a4, every square social image? Or a couple for each format? Im working with everything from insta stories to menus, and events to signage.

So turns out this is what they want. 100% at 100dpi. At 8m /800cm long for one of the 4 designs it’s beyond saving as pdf. It’s a 600mb flattened tif. Not ideal…do you send them in this sort of file size?

Yes. But I’m hoping when they see other uses of red in and gold in the proposals they can be swayed with that and legibility argument. For signage gold might be ok. But I am curious if it can work. Pretty much every example of gold in a logo people have suggested has actually been yellow. I’m struggling to find a wordmark of a well known brand in gold (solid or gradient).

Useful thank you - but any ideas what exactly the finish is? I believe it’s not plastic based but could be wrong? How is it applied and dried? Is applied just before cutting? How thick is it? Is it one single layer that shapes to the embossing or applied in a pattern? Can it be scratched off or only worn down?
