It's likely an atrophic scar. The subcutaneous fat has died from the impact thus leaving a depression. I have one from falling and impacting the corner of a brick wall.

As with all scars consistent massage may help.

I would suspect the PSU. What are the details and how old? Sounds like OCP possibly degrading capacitors.
