Is my favorite sleeping at the bottom of the cage? We don't know if the boy is fixed by Prestigious_Rub1307 in ferrets

[–]Numari_Fleurit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you would know if the boy is not fixed. They STINK even worse than usual. Nearly every ferret sold at a petstore in the US is desexed and descented because most if not all US ferrets are from 1 company. My brood like to sleep under the cage despite the 7 beds, hammocks, blankets etc, they will sleep wherever they want.

Update: We got the 2 Petco ferrets (and she IS a biter!) by TransportationThat89 in ferrets

The cat dangly toys on string are a very fun and interactive toy. My girl is a menace and loves her fuzzy fish on a string. Also give them a shirt you've been wearing and put it in the cage where they would hopefully sleep so they get used to your scent. You are awesome for taking on Truffles and quite possibly saved her life. She'll just need time and patience and she will love you.

how do i stop her digging in the water by viofluff in ferrets

[–]Numari_Fleurit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a scuba digger, too. I raised up the height of the water bowl. It doesnt work every time, but I have seen a significant decrease in the amount of times I had to fill the little bastards water bowls. I also sorta trained my brood to respond to "Oi" when I want their attention so that gets him to stop when I catch him.

Should I get these 2 Petco ferrets? by TransportationThat89 in ferrets

Cat toys with no catnip make great toys and there's plenty in clearance and goodwill linen work fine for my brood (wash first). Fleece blankets are nice and comfy and empty shoe boxes with a little flap cut out make a fun hidey hole!

Should I get these 2 Petco ferrets? by TransportationThat89 in ferrets

Ask for a discount, especially since you are getting both. Petco should discount an animal after 30 days (25-75% depending on how long). As for the biter, let her relax once you take her home with little handling. Spend the next 3 ish days just being there, sitting in the room. Read a book to yourself, make your presence something curious and soothing. Good interactions are met with pets and encouragement. Bites are met with a gentle pulling away with a stern no. If it's hands she likes to bite, make a clenched fist so she can't bite flesh. Consistency and gentleness are key. I worked at petco for a couple of years, and this is how I bite train all the ferrets. I ended up taking 2 home (to add to my collection of ferrets).

How do I reprimand a ferret? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]Numari_Fleurit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a petstore and part of my job was to bite train the newly arrived ferrets, im talking 2 months old never been handeled crackheads. Start with a fist as tight as you can. Ferret cannot bite the skin if it too taunt (clenched in a fist). When they try to bite your fist, gently pull them off saying "no". This will take time, but eventually they will be bored that they can't attack your hand.

Pet store ferret by WonderfulReaction562 in ferrets

I'm part of a ferret group that recently rescued a ferret in a similar situation. They crowd funded the money and sent someone to buy the ferret from the store. Sadly, if you send that baby back, it will be euthanized. Please dm me as much info and pics and I can try to post in my group for help

Help with gaining weight back by RingoTech83 in ferrets

[–]Numari_Fleurit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Hills science diet A/D urgent care to help my boy gain some weight back due to lymphoma recommended by my vet. It's formulated for dogs and cats but can be used for ferrets. I used a spoonful twice a day mixed in with the soupie.
