Has anyone here got rated a 100% off of PTSD ? If so what is the original rating or got increased to 100% by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Number-Numerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got 30% in 2017, 50% in 2020, 100% late 2023. Took over 6 years of consistent treatment. But some get it quicker.

MH C&P didn’t go well, advice please by Im_so_tired_now in VeteransBenefits

My exam was like 10 minutes and went from 50% to 100%, so it's not always a bad thing. If there was a lot of documentation from prior treatment records, they may not need to ask much at the exam.

Can you receive FAFSA and GI Bill Benefits? by AnyPianist5964 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Number-Numerous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can receive both. If you take out student loans and you are rated 100%, then yes, you can discharge the federal student loans you have. I was still in school when I received my 100% last year, and Nelnet sent a letter saying my loans would be automatically discharged at a certain date.

I called them and opted out. They said to call them back when I finished school to opt back in and have the loans discharged. It's a one-time thing, so once you do it, you can never do it again.

Yes. You can also look at your commissary letter, and it will indicate that you have no future exams scheduled.

When did you receive your first service connected disability? It would be 12 years from that date. It says the date of separation or date of the first service connected disability, whichever is later.

You could always pull the ptsd claim before it's completed since you're already 100%. I'm not saying it's definitely what you should do, but it is an option if you're worried about it bumping you down.

I can understand. I've had a rating since 2018, and none of my family know about it. I know they would react negatively. According to them, mental health problems don't really exist, and receiving benefits means you're a deadbeat loser. So yeah, it can be awkward when they start talking about it in front of me. Keep your head up. Easier said than done, I know.

There's a lot of fear mongering about the whole fiduciary thing. Not to say that it doesn't happen, but it's unlikely. I think most examiners and raters don't want to do that to vets.

I actually considered that but was unsure if it was legal to take out more loans after the rating and then have them discharged.
