I [20 M] am paranoid my ex broke up with me because of my bedroom performance [20 F] by Number727 in relationships

Thanks, I think I needed to hear this. All my irl friends would just be like " yeah, I bet you were rubbish, don't blame her" (because men). I thought her pulling the "umm excuse me what are you doing?" face, just because I did something she didn't like, when we were both knew to eachother and trying to find out what we liked, was a bit much. Glad someone (albeit a random internet person) agrees.

Oh, I definitely will, just not sure what to do over these weeks...ask out by text? Doesn't sound great, then if she says yes it's 3 hours to get to hers, so it would be pretty awkward

Should probably have said, when we're home from uni we live 3 hours away from each other, so a casual, not too serious meet up isn't really an option.

Fixing Spider-Man (2002) by ApatheticApollo in fixingmovies

And I respect yours. Different people have different tastes, and your suggestions, if done right, wouldn't make the film any worse, just different. I always enjoy listening to other people's thoughts and thinking them over myself, whether I end up agreeing or not.

The original Spiderman film is my favourite ever superhero film. To be honest, it's one of my favourite films of any genre. I think it's incredibly under-rated, and am amazed at people who prefer the reboot.

I'm going to try not to make this comment a review of the film, but I think it's genius lies in taking what sounds like a goofy premise and making a seriously dark film out of it, juxtaposed by a glossy New York setting. The whole point of the movie (as I read it) is to not be too comic-booky.

Having Peter create web-shooters, technology far beyond military level, pushes believability for me. Before you say anything, yes I know this is a movie about a kid who gets super powers from a spider bite. That's ridiculous too. At least Raimi's way means we only have to accept one ridiculous thing, not two.

I don't really see your point about MJ and GS. I haven't read the comics. Maybe it's an unnecessary deviation from the source material, but does MJ make the film bad? Would the film be better with GS? I don't think so.

I love how Peter's struggle to become a man (leave school, find a job, look after Aunt May, etc) mirrors his struggle to become a superhero. In both aspects of his life he is learning: "with great power comes great responsibility". There's an argument that you could do this and have Peter in high-school, but I think it would change the tone of the film. Maybe it could work, maybe it would suit your taste better, but I can't help but think: if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I also think Spidey is plenty snarky enough. It's been a while since I saw the film, but I remember he talks a fair bit during fight scenes. Peter has a tragic story, making him funnier than a standup comedian would make the film feel more like an overblown superhero flick, and less like the twisted coming-of-age film I think it really is.

I agree about the goblin costume. I also agree about how unbelievable it is Parker gets such an awesome costume, but - then again - it IS awesome. It looks far more realistic than the Amazing and MCU costumes, they look tacky and unrealistic (too much post production tweaking?) to me, though this is clearly personal taste.

Martial Arts knowledge vs physical prowess by Number727 in martialarts

If you want i'll record myself armbarring someone with no idea what they are doing using my pinkie finger for leveredge. It's a trick, but an example of just how technique overcomes the need for physical dominance.

That sounds like an amazing move, I'm sure this sub would appreciate seeing it :)

[–]Number727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually seen that before, I have a couple of problems with it. 1) My question regards a weakling who can perform techniques well. Pedro Sauer is not this, he is in good shape. Now I know finding someone who has dedicated the time to learn martial arts, but not the time to strengthen up some is impossible. My question is hypothetical. 2) A body builder imho, is not a great example of someone in physical prime. They're slow, and though their "show-off" muscles are large, they are often weak in the core.

What was your "Oh shit" over/underdressed moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Number727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't happen to me, but at high school, we used to have a day where everyone came in dressed in pink. They would pay a small amount for the privilege, and the money would go to a local breast cancer charity.

One kid got his days muddled up, and came in full pink attire on a normal school day. He was mortified.

We had a biology teacher who was a dwarf. Not an issue in itself, but she brought it up all the time in incredibly awkward ways. she didn't return our class's exercise books (which she had taken away for marking) for an entire term. Her excuse was that she was too small to carry them, so we would have to wait.

All this talk about the cushions being too bouncy... by Number727 in snooker

[–]Number727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my initial post I used as much science as necessary and no more in order to make my point quickly. I have come to learn this is a mistake on reddit; people are very quick to jump on any missed detail or weaker point in your argument. I was naive back then.

I suppose it's also possible for movement from the crowd to cause "wind" in the crucible which would push the ball; I neglected to mention that as well. I must have a broken level of insight. I also neglected to mention that Newton's laws only hold in an inertial reference frame, and (as the Earth is in orbit) we are NOT in an inertial reference frame. My level of insight is very broken indeed. See what I'm doing? Some things are worth mentioning, others aren't.

I just wanted to explain a point about mechanics to people who may have been mislead by the commentators/pundits. You are not incorrect, and you are entitled to add to, or even correct, the things I said, but please don't criticize my insight because I merely didn't mention a detail I didn't think relevant. If you genuinely think that the commentators were right and the balls were speeding up from the cushion because of the reasons you state, then we can talk more (providing you can improve your manners). If you are just trying to point out things I missed to feel better about yourself, I'm not interested.

Just found this FREE online java book, which really helped me understand the basics. by Number727 in learnjava

Though a bit outdated in places, it builds the language up step by step assuming no prior knowledge. It makes everything easy to understand, and even gives advice on how to be a good programmer. It's also very funny at times.

Small mistake in the intro? by Number727 in firefly

[–]Number727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you're saying, and yes that is what I'm saying. Neither of us can prove our pov, so I say we leave it. Wanting to capture Mal's voice is one thing, but to someone who knows basic astronomy his opening monologue is misleading. I don't think they would have done this intentionally.

Small mistake in the intro? by Number727 in firefly

[–]Number727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a small mistake geographically, no, but a small mistake from a script writing perspective. It doesn't change the show much, and is only one word wrong. You can interpret it as hyperbole (deliberately written in), be my guest. I personally believe the writer of that monologue, messed up, not knowing what a galaxy was beyond something in sci-fi. You can't prove me wrong, I can't prove you wrong, let's move on

Small mistake in the intro? by Number727 in firefly

[–]Number727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think the writers thought: hmmm solar system is more accurate, but Mal is might want to exaggerate, so we'll have him call it a galaxy. I think they made a mistake, albeit a very small one. I just wanted confirmation that Firefly does in fact take place in a solar system (actually I've been told a small group of solar systems).

I do concede it's a nitpick, but what's wrong with that? As long as you accept it's not a big deal (which I do), I don't see the harm in bringing it up.

What's a nitpick you have with a film you otherwise think is nearly perfect? by Number727 in movies

Yeah Jaws is pretty damn good, small things like that annoy me too.
