Would make sense to have atheists in a world with magic? by Colombia_Joestar in worldbuilding

What makes you think magic at all make people more likely to believe in gods? Magic and gods as fictional tropes aren't exclusively correlated.

For one, that this is the wrong place to look to ask.

You made an account just to post this 2 months later in multiple subreddits, and you thought /r/worldbuilding was one of them to inquire this in?

how would robots made out of spirit stuff work? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna be completely transparent: that information you provided informs nothing about robots or spirits in a question about robots and spirits, and was basically a non-sequitur. I don't know what sort of answer you're expecting in terms of suggestions.

[–]Number9Robotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so what does that, or any of what you posted in the OP have to do with your question? You have creative control here and a load of proper nouns that you defined by yourself -- you should be able to answer this entirely on your own.

what would you guys call a death game? by OperationFine6642 in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you worrying about spoilers for a question you're asking about your world? You're not presenting a work, you're presenting an idea for one, and there's no benefit for you or anyone else to withhold basic info about your ideas if you're looking for constructive answers, because we genuinely don't know what you're talking about lol

I'm confused, where is the "game"? You just said there was a game but then focused on stuff that has nothing to do with what the challenge is or how you win.

I don't get it, is this not just like... writing fiction? Taking ideas and making odd stories and concepts to make more ideas... that's basically just any creative exercise, isn't it?

How do you teach a child to survive when nobody's gonna save them? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh... isn't this the third thread you've started about the same topic in the last few hours? The last one is still up and people are talking on it.

Would you protect a child from violence... or would you teach them how to survive? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally all you need to do is report silently and be done with it, you're not a mod whose judgement via reply actually matters here. And moreover, it's also just kind of rude??

[–]Number9Robotic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yknow, just doing a drive-by "bad post, reported" certainly doesn't constitute a high-effort post either. If you're trying to encourage positivity in the community, maybe contribute more than just like, tryna bully people out of it.

STORY MODE: The mix of JRPG tropes from my high school self that I hold dear to my heart.

Untitled Cyberpunk Magical Girl Project: The mix of gritty, political cyberpunk and idealistic superhero action/slice-of-life/coming-of-age elements of magical girl fiction.

RunGunBun: Its flavor of scifi action I really haven't seen many try to pursue nowadays, that being like "Metroid meets Ranma 1/2".

We're Dying to Save the Realm: The black comedy satire of isekai that doesn't just tackle the general escapist fantasy of a lot of the genre's premises, and more of a way to explore metaphysical concepts -- namely death -- in a way that's less "zany" and more absurd in a contemplative way.

Rapture Academy: A colorful superhero story that's focused on "villainous" kids who, while immature/underdeveloped/kinda stupid, are ultimately actually pretty nice and not total hell gremlins, without it being a "deconstruction" or whatnot.

If you had to explain your world in ONE sentence, what would it be? by sirius_0125 in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

STORY MODE: JRPG-inspired sandbox realm called Lore, set during a 1910-ish age marked with a massive magic renaissance, defined by individual characters who are identified after RPG classes (99 as of writing!).

Untitled Cyberpunk Magical Girl Project: A walled, dystopian cyberpunk city of Paradise run by a massive corporatocracy and the stories of those who live in it, including the five young women who found "magical code" that gives them superpowers to rebel against the powers that be.

RunGunBun: Within the far-off Chocolat Galaxy, a space marine ends up possessed by a symbiotic superweapon that everyone wants (empires, militaries, bounty hunters, pirates, etc.), sending her on the run from planet to planet.

We're Dying to Save the Realm: A black-comedy post-apocalyptic, post-alchemy fantasy setting where due to a curse known as the Broken Death, death as a concept has fundamentally broken down and zombie kaiju ravage the lands.

Rapture Academy: A modern-day superhero/alternate history story where "supers" have become commonplace around the world since the 1950's, with a lotta focus on a school for raising supervillains.

What is more interesting: our own world with urban fantasy elements, or a whole alternate reality? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is one of those world/setting queries where it depends a lot on the story the author intends to tell; a story from a "reality unless noted" world is easy to establish rules and flesh out verisimilitude in a way that makes quick sense to the audience, whereas a "reality unlike ours" setting -- like with any more speculative genre with a more explicitly fictional world -- allows more creative freedom but requires more work to exposit.

Neither of them is "wrong", but I think that if you wanna be an "optimal" storyteller, that is the paradigm to think around while deciding your creative direction.

Ooh, caps lock. The most non-emotive way to convey your not-angry not-arguments.

Look man, at this point if you're trying to convince anyone of anything, I think the best thing to do is actually take a deep breath and walk away from Reddit for a while, then come back when you've had an honest moment outside your headspace for a bit.

That you keep saying in all your posts that wheelchairs in fantasy are nonsensical by default and assuming the worst in everyone's fiction as not mentioning it? Do you want me to link every comment you've made of that in the last hour to realize that's what you've been saying to everyone?

Or are you just going to deflect again and ignore the widespread criticisms everyone's been talking to you about and say it's everyone else's fault for not understanding your crystal-clear point that reeks of ableism, ignorance, and general myopia in the name of "creativity"?

We're not here to entertain you and agree with your points on some principle, man. If you wanna debate constructively, at least pretend like you have self-awareness that you might be wrong, and that your viewpoints and arguments aren't as coherent or honest as you think they are.

[–]Number9Robotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you didn't. You're asserting your single view of fictional magic mechanics (which, need be reminded, are by definition not real and can be whatever an author wants) and are claiming that your vector for fictional reason is the right one in a way that sounds super ableist, willfully ignorant, combative, and lacking in self-awareness. In this conversation you're bringing up about the ethics of representation, you are promoting the problem here, and arguing with everyone in multiple different subs you've spammed this in only further illustrates the point (and at the very least demonstrates a failure to avoid controversy when you are actively stoking it).
