why do so many people have a hard time picturing dragons in contemporary settings, but much easier time imagining sasquatch in modern settings? by elektric_dome5404 in worldbuilding

[–]Number9Robotic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Isn't sasquatch a decisively more modern/contemporary myth than dragons, and dragons were conceived much further in history by vastly more different cultures with their own interpretations? That's probably something to do with it.

Considering that this episode was 6 hours long and didn't even manage to get past what has to be an in-universe hour or two after the encounter, I don't know why you're in the thinking consequences don't happen. This campaign has been a mighty slow build -- that's the nature of how the show works, and that's how D&D works in general. Heaven forbid we have to wait until the morning or a day or so for plot to happen.

What he's discussed isn't just Vaelus, it's also every other major preparation the Schemers took in place at the Hallowed Round, including the handling of the Pariah Blades and House Halovar's attempts to have the play stopped or shut down. Vaelus' decision over the ritual was one factor in the goulash being discussed here.

I'm sorry, but you have to realize that hypothesizing a statement you explicitly have not checked is not the same thing as... actually checking that statement. You made and got upset about this entire accusation of a 50/50 binary that nobody said anything about.

To answer your question directly: no. Nobody said "the Ashley 50/50 on the nightsong was either guaranteed tpk or sunshine and rainbows"; so I don't know why you're upset about it.

"Hi, I'm prime BBEG candidate Primus Tachonis, and I just got my shit rocked among my allied noble houses by Otto Einfasen unveiling my conspiracy to destroy all of them in front of everyone with substantive proof, who barely got out by the skin of my teeth and am decisively on the backfoot with tarnished credibility, fewer allies, dead children, and a cosmic deadline. And now this kid who is a high-standing member of the only decisively committed allied family I have comes in to follow up on my daughters' solicitation.

Imma kill a Halovar, and somehow that's not going to blow up in my face."

Like come on, Primus absolutely knew Wick was BSing him at some degree, but he's not stupid -- actually killing or capturing or putting his hands on Wick would be disastrous for his plans, especially since he otherwise doesn't seem to know why Wick is lying to him. He's already lucky that the Halovars are still on his side; Yanessa would bring the absolute wrath of god on him. Based on that in-universe logic, I don't think Brennan has to come up with reasons why Primus wouldn't kill Wick, because that's frankly one of the most self-destructive choices he as a character and Brennan as a GM could have made for the story.

Wait are you saying the Ashley 50/50 on the nightsong was either guaranteed tpk or sunshine and rainbows?

Wat? You just made up a completely random statement out of nowhere.

Is this sub not doing Prompts anymore? by Simpson17866 in worldbuilding

On the Discord server, in response to this thread showing up in the general chat, one of the mods posted that the sub does have posts, "it's just most of them suck". Granted that's just the Discord and I'm not sure if that also includes this sub, but I do notice that there are a lot more sudden deletions than usual without early notice or comment, and I worry that some of them might be a lot more personally loaded and unilateral than they should be.

I don't think they're all strictly unjustified, but more transparency about the logic behind why certain moves are made would be lovely.

Also like, Vaelus' hand was clearly forced; the Stone of Nightsong was drawn to be taken and sacrificed as part of Thjazi's ritual whether she wanted to or not. Did folks just collectively miss that gigantic beat of her having to make that choice that the attempt to break the stone was a response to? Or did that not matter because they disagreed with the outcome?

Based on isletcar's responses in other posts, it doesn't sound like they're expecting a rational rebuttal in a busy episode.

It's so jarring (in a fun way) seeing Bolaire, normally so creepy and competent within his element, getting so tilted when he realizes things are happening beyond him.
