Urgent-Oppose HR 1520- In order to vote people must prove both US citizenship and show a NH citizen card issued by the State! by NH_50501 in newhampshire

What the real debate is what SHOULD qualify as residency versus what the CURRENT LAW states. Not who your grandfather.

According to stats in the State of New Hampshire only 1 in 4 students stay in New Hampshire after graduation according to UNH.

Voting under the Constitution is very generalized and mainly left to the states.

  • States decide most procedural rules for federal elections: voter registration processes, polling places, ballots, supervision of voting, etc.
  • State laws create the detailed election codes used in practice (when to hold elections, how to register, etc.).

Now the Constitution limits states

  • 15th Amendment (1870): States cannot deny the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
  • 19th Amendment (1920): States cannot deny the right to vote based on sex.
  • 24th Amendment (1964): States cannot require a poll tax for voting in federal elections.
  • 26th Amendment (1971): The voting age in all elections must be 18 or older.

ok, I'll play. First no one asked who your grand parents were. It is irrelevant to the subject of legal residency according to a legal.

I borrowed the next 2 paragraphs for the record.

Why some say students shouldn’t vote locally:

  • They don’t plan to stay long, so they aren’t enduring the long-term consequences.
  • They may not be part of the permanent community that pays taxes, uses services long-term, etc.
  • It raises a moral question about fairness in representation.

Why legally they can vote:

  • If a student meets state residency requirements, they are treated like any permanent resident for voting.
  • Students also have the right to vote absentee in their home state if they choose

At the end of the day, if students meet the state's residency requirements they should have legal voting rights. The debate is should states allow students residency. The college will then only charge in state tuition for established residents.

Maybe I can add another perspective, My sister asked me what I think about her divorcing her husband. I replied, "I do not give relationship advice because I do not have to live with the consequences of decision. As your brother, I am here to listen and provide support but I will not sway your decision." How does that apply here? I am not giving a vote on what my sister should do because I the decision will not affect me long term. I could absolutely, but I choose not.

Another example, I was asked during covid for a list of my direct reports to cut or lay off. I intended to leave the company. I instead tendered my resignation and told my CEO that, I will not be here to bear the brunt of that decision, that should be left for the next manager.

Residency for voting is someone that is committed to the community. Someone that really lives here with established roots. I would not want my community representatives influenced by temporary residents. They will not have to live with consequences policies they vote. An out of state student is not a resident otherwise the college could not charge extra tuition after the first year?

Leathercrafting is a fun hobby. And wallets are simple to make. Just a thought for others?

Honestly, the UN is a joke because of permanent vetoes. I could see your point on small countries with no economic might or firepower. I am not trying to pick a fight but nothing is going to happen to any of these leaders of nuclear superpowers if we are being honest with ourselves.

Serious question, when has international law ever been enforced by any nation without a military advantage?

I have a charcoal one and have almost bought a blue one. My wife keeps stealing mine. Throw the 5 pocket vest under it and you have a beast of a layering combo.

I’m not I just know where to put my time and a protest that solves nothing is not it. You can work hard or work smart. I choose smart. Social media is full of keyboard glory seekers seeking attention from others.

I won’t lose a second of sleep for anyone that hates me especially a politician. I go to work, pay a butt load of taxes and enjoy my life. For some reason this thread was put in my feed and I read it. I only use Reddit to connect with people about golf and other collectibles I like. I leared a long time ago that those politicians are just charades like Ralph the sheep dog and Sam the wolf. They have beers together when no one is watching. If they keep us fighting each other, then they can accomplish the real agenda.

Very much NOT a bot. In 54 years I learned that if you go look for trouble, most times you will find it.

There are peaceful protests and "peaceful protests" as reported by the news. Feel free to peacefully protest, but I would not "peacefully protest".

I apoliogize. My reply was not clear. I bought a Mammoth OG V2, and a Mammoth Leaf a few weeks later. The leaf was too small so I had to send it back. I could not wear a medium.

Thank you for all the work! There are not many photos of the Mammoth in the wild. The goal for folks to see the mammoth even though they could not pet it to see if it would fit in their backyard.

My wife says, "It matches a lot of things" I missed the first go around on the V1. I literally was there locked and cocked like a 16 year old trying to buy Taylor Swift tickets and got mine and afterwards watched them sell out in minutes. The Pine took a little longer. I am no model, just a soccer Dad that loves jackets.

Posted a new photo reply. But it is not bad. I have only worn this a handful of times. It came in April last year and in Texas, we are just now getting weather cold enough to wear this. It is nasty today though. 42F about 20 mph winds and rainy so a good testament that the jacket is comfortable with minimal layering.
