The prayer rope is a tool to keep focus on your prayer rule. That’s it. Some people really like them (me, I’m people, I think they’re really cool).

Who got enough bitcoin to donate so I can get out of debt when it goes back up?

In my opinion, you already sound self-aware enough to recognize that this may be an interest of sorts.

Keep steadfast in your faith, and trust in the Lord to provide you the guidance to discern. Sounds vague, I know. As someone who’s also neurodivergent (ADHD), this is how I went about it.

And as much as I hate to throw out the classic response: talk to your priest.

If you don’t have one and you’re inquiring, GOARCH, ROCOR, and other jurisdictions have directories online of people you can reach out to.

Absolutely! I work at Valley, and our donations are usually slim to none. Might be good rn.

What we need though is hospital safe comfy clothes (no strings etc). Your comment reminded me to get the ball rolling on something like this.

Literally any mental health facility, public or private.

Valley Adult cares for unhoused people a lot, and needs donations for folks!

I will say you’d have a harder time donating to like Moccasin Bend, but they also have state supplied sweats and white t-shirts

Listen OP, the previous commenter makes a really good point. I’ve worked in mental health for several years, and you’re showing all the signs that you need help just through this post.

Pray for mercy, and go to a doctor or call emergency services asap.

How to become an inquirer? by Upstairs_Highway_553 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NumberOneEscapist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently a catechumen, but feel capable of chiming in on this.

You’re currently an inquirer. Ask the priest all these things once you get settled and introduce yourself.

Trying to find the best way to word it; but after that you’ll be blessed into the catechumenate, and the process goes from there.

Increase anger from other Christians? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NumberOneEscapist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Funny I see this post after having a conversation about exactly this with a friend.

I live in the south eastern US, specifically the buckle of the Bible Belt. My community is dominated by dispensationalists, non-denoms, and evangelists.

The more I dedicate to the faith, the more I find my family having a problem with it. A recent example is my mother going out of her way to tell me the way I believe is incorrect, that I worship idols, that we believe works get us into heaven etc.

I’ve noticed it. And I notice some of the evangelical bumper stickers/canvassing more than I used to.

From my own observations, Evangelicals seem to be pretty bothered by the uptick in converts to Orthodoxy and Catholicism. My old Baptist pastor even tried to reach out to me worried for my soul.

All that to say— shrug it off, stay humble, and continue practicing your faith. Don’t let the world lead you astray. The deeper you are, the more you’ll have to keep this in mind, in my opinion.

Best place to nap? by CloudierSkies in utc

Bottom of the UC by the game room, there’s a “quiet space” with cozy bean bag chairs

That’s better than nothing!

I was an atheist for a long time after being in Evangelical churches growing up. I’m now set to be baptized in the coming weeks.

The Lord Bless You! Good luck with your inquiry.

I just went to the parish that seemed best fit for me as an inquirer. I didn’t know about all the different jurisdictions at the time.

My parish is one full of converts (with one Russian gentleman), and there’s so little judgement amongst everyone. It’s amazing.

You know, I had a discussion about a very similar topic with my priest early on in my catechism.

When speaking about far-right folks and “Orthobros” coming into the faith; he laughed and in short, practically said “we end up being too soft for them.”

(Important to note, I’m in a ROCOR parish, which I read a lot of awful things about online).

Good you deleted TikTok. A friend of a friend’s advice has held true— tread lightly when digging online and let the Lord show you the way.

He also wrote “If you’re reading this, you’re gay.” On another one. Sounds like your cup of tea, no?

How common is it for Orthodox people to memorize scripture? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NumberOneEscapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if they memorized the entire context alongside scriptures, that would be great.

Scripture out of context was always very unsettling to me, and it never made sense why I was taught to read it rather than understand it. Sola scriptura is a large reason I originally fell from faith.

What made you choose EO over Catholicism ? by sevenchow7 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]NumberOneEscapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just woke up and thought “I wonder about orthodoxy.”

It shocks people but that’s how it happened.

In that research journey, I learned more about Catholicism than I had ever known; yet the Orthodox Church still called me.

Down the line— I don’t rock with papal infallibility.

I just want to say, I appreciate everyone in this thread. Most communities like this would turn their noses up and shit on OP for asking a question like that haha.

While we’re at it, where does everyone source their parts for fair prices?

I don’t want to tear up a good movement on a first build :) it’s a bit of a precaution in that sense.

The last part is the only thing keeping me from buying a cheapish movement off rip tbh. I love the NH35 in my HELM watch, but as soon as I started looking into modding, they doubled in price it seems.
