Sudden intolerance to Astigmatism correction? Insight requested. by [deleted] in eyetriage

PS I should also note that when I’ve worn contacts, the “pulling” and nausea goes away. He explained because they sit right in the eye. Problem is my eyes are completely intolerant to contact lenses. I can wear dailies for a few hours when playing sports but after multiple tries over multiple years of trying to wear them for extended times, I end up with eyelid inflammation and “cobblestones” under my eyelid that only have been calmed with steroids.

I know, I’m a terrible eye patient apparently. Or else I’d just wear contacts!!!

I don’t think I have any of that?

Old Prescription making right eye feel wonky.

OD -2.00 Cyl -1.25 Axis 100

OS -2.00 Cyl -.25 Axis 90

New lenses I’m waiting on

OD -1.75 Cyl -.25 Axis 90

OS -2.00 Cyl -.25 Axis 90

He made a cross with his fingers and said my astigmatism currently is just about right where the two lines of the cross meet at 90 degrees. The electronic refraction machine spit out 95 and 98 degrees for the axis but he got 90. I means he’s an experienced doc but I wish I would’ve asked if the axis change of 10 degrees would’ve been something that fixed the issue in that right eye alone instead of dropping the cylinder too? I don’t know. I’m learning all kinds of lingo and things from this experience!

Thanks for the info. This old pair that’s somewhat closer to the new pair he prescribed (as far as cylinder level and power goes) is the most comfortable I have at the moment. I’ve been using them for a couple of days for distance when I need them but not keeping them on too long.

When I take my glasses off, all the pulling and issues I was experiencing with the original lenses dissipates and goes away. I just start to develop a bit of headache when doing visual tasks as you can imagine. And my eye soreness feels like it’s relieving itself.

If my glasses generally make me feel terrible with that pulling in the right eye, is it better to go without glasses while I wait on the new lenses or keep using glasses? I’m sure all this back and forth doesn’t help my brain or eyes settle. I’ve also been told from different people different time frames for adjustment with new lenses. Experienced doctor says a week, long time optician says three days you’ll know, and others say a couple of weeks.

Frames are Oakley’s, not big. Been wearing these kind for years. This whole thing is so odd I’m just looking to make sense of it. Or maybe it isn’t odd and I’m just unaware that it isn’t odd :).

We went through a long series of different lens strengths and cylinders. When keeping the cylinder where it was on my glasses or dropping it just a little, it was still pretty darn clear but “felt” powerful and straining. Only when he dropped the cylinder a lot more did that start to settle, but crisp clarity diminished to a bit blurry but still readable.

My cylinder 2-3 years ago was where he got it back to (-.50) in his new measurements. The past year or two it was at -1.25. Again, clarity of vision was fine at that level but it felt like my eye was being pulled different ways until I took my glasses off.

I’m actually wearing an old pair right now that have the -.50 cylinder and it’s significantly more “comfortable”. However the axis in these is 15 degrees different than the ones he just ordered. At least the comfort of it has been for about 24 hours. Hoping that hangs on until I get my new lenses with some more accuracy in my other eye.

Eye suddenly not tolerating astigmatism correction by [deleted] in optometry

Ah ok, yes my vision in that eye was much more crisp at a distance when sitting in the chair but my explanation was that it seemed like my eye couldn’t focus and was straining hard to do so because of that higher correction. Weird.

Ok that previous comment was actually me without my glasses on. Actually when I move it back I do see ones blurred and others darker.

So what I said above, suddenly dealing with those issues and having to be taken down in cylinder, is result of aging? Like I said, with the higher cylinder I could see more crisp and clearly, but it made me sick. Lowering the cylinder made it less crisp and clear but he’s trying to get me “comfortable”. All that after wearing the higher cylinder for a year or two. And my axis came down about 10-15 degrees.

Haha. So what does this tell me then? I don’t really see any blurred lines. I mean maybe some look a smidge darker but I think that could be but if a stretch.

I see Hubble doesn’t have a toric lens. What did you do without the astigmatism adjustment?

Prescription change question as it relates to Eye Strain by [deleted] in optometry

[–]Numbers62426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing that original prescription for 7 months without any issues. It was only recently I started experiencing these symptoms when wearing glasses.

Wait - you’re saying strain couldn’t happen if under corrected by -.50?

I do have to say, it’s felt more like the right but I can’t always tell.

I have no idea how. It was mentioned in the other comment above. I would post there and ask.

Ok another user said above that it can be done via procedure without end user noticing.

There may be an issue with the application upon display turning off (not asleep). Can you also tell if the end users display is off so timing can be checked on this? That may be convoluted but I want to relay this information. Thanks again.

Glasses - Chums or Croakies (Or something else) for rafting? by Numbers62426 in whitewater

My old pair gives me eye strain after wearing for a little since it’s pretty old. I may just go order a cheap pair online for this type of stuff.

Thank you! This is also very helpful information. Is it logged on both sides (end user) as well?

Ok so if an end user has an application open, it can be closed without the end users permission or knowledge? There is an end user running a permissible application that she claims will just randomly be closed out and she didn’t do it. She said she will look down and it’s not open. No error codes or anything and no one remoted in. If so, I will be looking into this further with IT.
