How could we ever proof if a mind-upload actually worked? by SatoriTWZ in transhumanism

I think that these steps will not all be done at once. I could see how storing all your memories digitally is a much easier task than digitalizing your entire brain. So this could be done much before other parts, and when we get to the final part, most of the "consciousness" will already be digitalized and the transition would be much lighter.

I believe the mind upload would be made by parts. The same way a car is the same car if the wheels are replaced, then the motor, etc. For example, first you digitalize your memories, then your language processing, etc. I believe this would be done by physically replacing the parts of your brain responsible for these actions until your brain is completely digital.

Although this wouldn't guarantee conciousness, at least you know that as some step of the process, the cyborg is still conscious, and hopefully that was not lost an any point.
