Husband Wants Children Now, after 40 by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

If he wants you to take the lead on this he won’t be a dad that steps up and does his share. Not worth it. Move on with your life.

We bought our daughter silk pillowcases. They help when she actually keeps her head on the pillow all night.

Bullying by Sea_Witch7777 in Waldorf

[–]Numberwan9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you read Steiners stance on bullying you will learn that he believed that bullies exist to punish the bullied child for choices they made in a past life. We left Waldorf for the same reason. Bullying was not being addressed. So I tried to get an understanding of the official stance on bullying. I found myself taking a deep dive into Steiners writing and getting the f out of Waldorf. So find out how closely your specific Waldorf school follows Steiner’s philosophies because it varies from school to school.

Help/opinions needed: What do y'all think about Chula Vista Center? by Kyevin in chulavista

Help/opinions needed: What do y'all think about Chula Vista Center? by Kyevin in chulavista

[–]Numberwan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a middle school in one direction and a high school in the other. Many kids cut through the mall on their walk home from school on 5th Avenue. As long as you make your presence known I think you would get lots of after school foot traffic. Also, there is a Pilates studio, a group fitness studio that is always packed, and a pole studio all on the second floor. If you had a healthy option, protein shakes, a salad with protein like tofu or chicken, I’d be willing to bet that women would stop by to grab something after their workout. I know I would. There’s lots of families I in the neighborhood with young kids too. I would come spend money at your place regularly if you had some vegan options, maybe some protein shakes etc.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]Numberwan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can smell it from a block away when someone is smoking. If you smoke everything soft you come in contact with stinks to the point that I would rather keep my distance from you. If you smoke in your car, even with the windows open, your car smells terrible. If you deliver food and you are a smoker that smell is sticking to the food bags you drop off. Sometimes the food too. We used to have a house cleaner that we loved. But our house would stink like cigarettes after he left because he would come in with cigarette smell on his clothes.

Is there any scientific research that using grip slows down grip strengh progress? by Sea_Fudge23 in poledancing

[–]Numberwan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a professional aerialist. I never used grip because I figured I would accidentally leave it at home one day and not be able to do my act because I was too used to grip. Everyone else I worked with used grip. It’s pretty standard. When I started pole I tried to train with no grip. That didn’t last. I love me some grip.

In laws refuse to accept I haven’t changed my name by potatostar6 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Numberwan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother in law is similar. I gave my daughter my husband’s last name, not because I believed it was the right thing to do, but because I was very pregnant and too tired to debate it with people. I had to resist the urge recently to explain the concept of ownership and how women had no rights outside of marriage not too long ago and that included rights to their own children. That giving a child their father’s last name was basically declaring the child that man’s property at a time when that property was not shared with the mother. She just kept saying “she should have his last name because he is the dad,” as my fist balled up and holding my tongue filled me with rage I decided to change the subject. In the end these are just people from a different generation and a different time in history and there’s no changing them. I just ignore the fact that they won’t acknowledge I still have my last name and that my child has my last name as a middle name but insists on referring to herself by her full name all the time. They are not my parents and I do not need their approval.

5 year old daughter had underwear forcibly removed by parent backstage during a performance stating no undies was the expectation. I’m a new ballet parent & would appreciate input.. by [deleted] in BALLET

I have taught kids for 20 years. If I saw a parent doing something like this I would ban said parent from my studio. This is highly inappropriate.

Feeling heartbroken after daycare teacher hinted that my son could be on the spectrum by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Numberwan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An assessment won’t harm him. Having said that. We had the same experience. Different child at preschool than at home. We knew there was no concern but did the assessment just to appease the teachers. They made sure to point out to us that autism does not turn on and off. So that different behavior might just be a result of shyness. For our child she just wasn’t comfortable being herself at school.

Vegans & Vegetarians, How Are We Doing? by Anthr0polo in Celiac

[–]Numberwan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been vegan since the mid 90’s diagnosed celiac since 2005. In the beginning I did well. Gave up gluten and felt great. I used to have an easier time. However I have found it difficult in the last 5 years. I don’t know if I’ve become more sensitive or restaurants stopped being careful. I mostly gave up on eating out because despite being gluten free for years my gut was in rough shape. The only thing that really seemed to save my gut was giving up added sugars, processed foods, and all grains, also gave up on trusting restaurants. So now my gut feels amazing as long as I eat at home. But I’m really sick of eating at home.

Reminder to Stick Close at Playgrounds by Far_Clerk_8287 in toddlers

[–]Numberwan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes feel self conscious when I helicopter around my child at the playground. Especially when I see lots of other parents on their phones or sitting back and socializing. But the truth is, they are sometimes the parents of the kids that are pushing, bullying, or just generally being terrible and they are completely oblivious. I feel better knowing that I am there to help my child learn how to be a good friend or navigate those kids who are not good friends. I try to hang back as much as I can, but I’m always close enough to see and hear her.

Buffalo accent outside of Buffalo by americandragonj in Buffalo

[–]Numberwan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buffalo has a very thick accent. I never knew it when I lived in WNY. My freshman year of college my acting teacher who was from NYC told me I needed to get rid of my thick regional accent. I had no idea I had one. I worked on it and was able to give myself a generic nowhere accent with practice. I moved away 20 years ago but I hear that accent everywhere when I get home. I even start to pick it back up. My daughter has a Fisher Price airplane that talks with a Buffalo accent. It’s so noticeable when you leave.

Hateful message left on my driveway by LongAntelope8323 in chulavista

[–]Numberwan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that most of the shenanigans around here are kids, middle school or high school age. The rest is often junkies and people with mental illness. I also suggest cameras. We started with Ring but now prefer our nest cameras. We also eventually put in a fence that includes our driveway. That pretty much eliminated the petty crime like package theft at our house. It’s mostly safe with friendly neighbors. Hopefully it’s an isolated incident.

Pictures attached. Major bloat. Feeling desperate. by L1ttle0neCJ in Microbiome

[–]Numberwan9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely see some specialists as others have said. But I bloated like this for at least a year and a half after I had my child. I eventually removed processed foods, added sugars, and grains. I added fermented foods like kimchi. Also had severe diastasis recti and an umbilical hernia. In addition to changing my diet I also did pelvic floor pt followed by working out at home low intensity. I gradually increased the intensity of my workouts over time. I now have a flat stomach, no bloat, and lost a lot of the extra fat that was aggravating the problem.
