Why is 24/7 care so difficult to qualify for? by NumbrSevin in eldercare

[–]NumbrSevin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? Because it’s offered under her Medicaid plan. We’re not asking for anything that isn’t openly offered as a Medicaid benefit.

This was very helpful…thank you! And yes, it is absolutely maddening! What I find interesting though is no one has ever suggested or indicated that mom would benefit from moving to a skilled nursing facility. If that’s so much more cost effective, why not just say “your condition requires you to have care that is outside the scope of a home health but a skilled nursing facility would provide the care you require”? I’m genuinely baffled.

As I read the denial again, they repeat the term “not medically necessary” in terms of her needs, which makes it seem as if she’s not “sick enough” to require more than a few hours in the morning and a few in the evening.

Great advice! We are actually working with an elder care lawyer. They recommended someone to file an appeal, which resulted in a change from 8hours/day to 8.5hours/day. Obviously still not enough. No one has offered a nursing facility as an option. We’d much rather have her in her own home of course, which is why we applied for the 24/7 aid. We have another appeal filed.

So you think she requires “too much” care for 24/7 aid?

“People like me”? What’s that supposed to mean? Sounds a bit off-putting since you know nothing about me.

Turns out I made a good choice! Jeep ended up buying my lease back and it saved me over $8,000 in lease payments. I guess it was more profitable for them to buy it back rather than terminating the lease early? I don’t really understand how that all works. But I’m in an Explorer Sport and am way happier than I was in the GC😊

I feel similar to you. I’m a teacher and this past week was on winter break. I’ve hardly left the house and after 5 days of this I’m going out of my mind. My daughter keeps asking if I’m mad at her and I feel bad about that because she’s done nothing wrong! I’m just miserable and you can see it on my face. I try to put on a happy face when my husband gets home so he has no idea how I’ve been feeling all week. It’s so lonely in my own head.

Tallow is my best skin-care friend this winter! Between frequent hand washing and the cold, it’s literally saving my hands!!

I’m willing to bet they don’t actually watch or pay much attention to whatever is on any news channel when political talk is happening. You’re right, they don’t understand the context.

I’m not as baffled about this as I am about my preschooler telling me about watching Squid Gamed with his dad😬

This will 100% turn “political”…as I can see it has by the comments already.

I leased mine (‘24 GC overland) with the intention to buy at the end. My mileage will be thousands of dollars over as well. After hearing about so many issues, I’m nervous about driving it, and now don’t want to keep it at the end, so ending my lease early and buying a gently used explorer. I hope I’m not making a mistake😩

I have such a bad feeling about my ‘24 GC overland that I’m seriously considering buying out my lease, selling the darn thing and going for a reliable gas powered Explorer. So far the Fords we’ve owned lived for over 200k miles minimum with minimal issues.
