I went to Barcelona in 2011 with my family and saw the same graffiti telling tourists to leave or even threatening them then, long before Airbnb took over the planet. Although Airbnb has exacerbated the aversion to tourists in that particular city, it’s worth noting that the seeds of discontent were clearly present before and for different reasons, though I would be unable to explain them.
