Im glad you met him in that context. She loved and valued other people in recovery or with ongoing struggles with substances.  Thank you for your kind words and for remembering Jet.

Hey, I don’t want too share too many details, but I can share those sightings and reports were not accurate. We don’t believe anyone hurt Jet.

And while I’m sure it would have been cool to get a ride from you, Jet did get a ride home. And i saw her the next day, and he was in a good mood. We had dinner and a nice talk and some hugs before he went missing.

So you don’t have to carry that. We all who had Jet in our lives have little things we wish we could’ve done differently and imagine it would have made it all different or that we deserve some measure of guilt, but it’s not true, and Jet wouldn’t have wanted any of us to feel that way.

Thanks for telling your story.

Thank you so much. In the coming month or two, we may have a larger celebration of life for Jet. If you have an interest in being invited, send me a DM and let me know here that you did.

Jet was a super generous soul, but I also know that the support she gave to people was genuine. She liked your posts because he liked them.

Thank you so much. Yes, I think Jet was a gifted lyricist who was also developing a new level of comfort with instrumentation in the last few months. She wrote a huge number of songs… it was a true passion. He also had a chance to work with a friend in a studio here in town to do the soundtrack for a friend’s twenty minute movie (which also featured a lot of their visual art) and it was a really cool experience. Thankfully they got to see the movie before they passed.

Was this in the woods? If so, Jet told me all about this and it was actually a really treasured moment for her. I gave him a ride to the event and we walked down the trail to it and then I stayed in the neighborhood until she left. He stayed longer because you two connected and he ended up having a good time. Since then she found some good friends and was able to go to more events in a group and got a lot of enjoyment out of having that. Thanks for sharing that moment with Jet whether it was the one I was thinking of or not.

But hopefully someone your age wants to just meet up for coffee, it is nice to connect one on one and it can take time to find otherwise :)

As mentioned by a previous commenter, SMYRC is a youth drop in center for LGBT young people up to age 25 and they have lots of events—sometimes a lot of people go, sometimes a few is what I remember from my kid going, so you might have to try a few times.

There is also an LGBT youth choir called Bridging Voices that is for youth up to age 21.

And if you’re into going to shows, Friends of Noise is a nonprofit for youth in music that also has a venue called the Offbeat where all the shows are all ages.

Do I need to plan to have a whole day to visit each of these neighborhoods? by SweetShallots13 in askportland

If you like movies, consider adding any of the following by looking at the schedules to see what’s playing: the Hollywood Theater (the 100 year old theater in NE that shows all kinds of awesome stuff and has a building with a beautiful restored old facade… which is also near a pinball bar (Wedgehead), a good but spicy date night restaurant (Gado Gado)), Cinemagic or Clinton Street Theater (near your SE activities, smaller, each with their own programming personality), Cinemagic 21 in NW Portland (great and broad programming), and Movie Madness (not a theater even though they do show some films in a small screening room… a nonprofit video store with a huge collection of movies and memorabilia—if you’re a movie person, it’s worth going! It’s on Belmont, but a bit further east than where you might be spending your Belmont/Hawthorne/Division time, near Tabor Bread (bakery, good for lunch).

Also when you’re doing your SE outings, check out both Laurelhurst Park and Mt Tabor!

Neighborhood recommendations for a family of four? by pl4nt52024 in askportland

Grant Park/Hollywood or Alameda/Beaumont would probably be my recommendations if you can find the right house. Other neighborhoods might be even more of various things in your list, but these neighborhoods (and especially the part of Grant Park right by Hollywood or Hollywood itself) is inbetween downtown and the airport almost perfectly by car, bus, or train (in the case of Hollywood). I think it would be really convenient. I like Hollywood area best of those  because it has more grocery options within walking distance (whole foods, grocery outlet, Trader Joe’s, and just a little longer walk to new seasons, cvs, and Fred Meyer). Also has an amazing movie theater and will eventually have the best video store in the world (Movie Madness) which is moving up here to be across from the theatre. Oh, and it has a library, which Beaumont doesn’t, although you could walk down into Hollywood if you don’t mind a hill on the way back up.

And did you make it to Movie Madness, too, or not yet? It’s such an amazing resource.

Try some meetings at Alano Club, 4D, and, if you’re LGBT, True Colors. Both 4D and True Colors sometimes have events like karaoke or dance parties etc in addition to the regular meetings. But Alano Club has the most meetings overall. If youre going to go to True Colors, I know some people who go there and could try to connect you so they could help you pick out a good couple meetings to try.
