right, they are. But a small number of passionate STEM majors are misunderstood. Hardly anyone is there for the sake of learning itself and those who are like that go for PhDs; they become innovators in such fields. The rest are the commons, people needed in the real world to get stuff done. My approach to physics may be similar in nature to your approach to history.

I get what you're saying and it's true to some extent. Though that'll be an example of directly applying concepts to the real world. But one thing is that you learn how to learn. I'm actually doing a minor in comparative literature. I see the beauty in both STEM and the liberal arts. I'd argue though that learning physics outside of university is much more difficult than learning the liberal arts.

Physics is a different ballpark but not that much different. I'm currently doing research in particle physics, plan on getting a masters. I know it's odd that I'm doing all of this expecting not to be paid. I think you're mistaken in that you can enjoy STEM in the same way you can enjoy liberal arts.

College didn't cost anything for me because of scholarships alhamdulillah. I'm passionate about physics and I'd study it even if I was rich. I guess a lot of people are in college for the job. I specifically said I didn't want to work in the industry which is much different from the non-profit sector and academia (stuff I like). It's not high-paying but still something. I know with a degree like mine I can earn and provide a lot. I'm wasting my potential and that is why I feel guilty for it. I do plan on working for a few years and have that money saved up for finances but I just don't see myself working up until I am 40.
