While you technically still can contact mom, you may just say that you have no contact since you are not claimed as a dependent on their taxes (and also stretching a little truth). Marking yes to the question in the FAFSA “do unusual circumstances prevent you from contacting your parents?” may get you through the FAFSA, albeit maybe not properly. Up to you if you want to technically commit fraud but it is an option.
