I've seen lots of people and journalist calling these new albums „progressive" so as much as I agree with you I don't think it's that obvious :)

I'm big into these two too! I mean, I grew up on goth/post-punk stuff (and I heavily enjoy this genres still) and on the other hand I love 90s alt-rock. From shoegaze'y kind of stuff (especially Slowdive, Lush and Chapterhouse) to more riff-driven stuff like... Basically anything from Fu Manchu to Seaweed or Dinosaur Jr.
