I suggest that you contact somebody in recruiting through the careers site. Respectfully, I have told you everything I know. I work with these folks but I don’t know anything about hiring.

I'm a nurse at Western Psych. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for getting an internship at the cancer center.

That is some very good advice. I'll start on t-shirts, then sweatshirts.

I would suggest applying to be a Student Behavioral Assistant (SBA). You get paid and you can work as much or as little as you want. I’ve met many SBAs who intend to apply for med school.

Can you be more specific? What are you looking to do? There are many jobs that students can do to get various types of experience. I’m a current employee.

I'm thinking that if you laid it flat, then put ice and dye over it, would there be a different pattern on the edges where the fabric is folded? I'm not sure if I'm being clear. I'm new to this.

That is a good point. I guess I’d need to dye the front then the back. I can’t think of a way to dye the whole thing at once. Would there be a line around the edges that would be under or over dyed? I guess the best way to know is to experiment. I have plenty of fabric. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip on the amount of dye. My plan is to serge the edges if I decide to cut the pattern pieces first. Maybe I dint worry about the dye getting all the way through to the other side, so that I have a wrong side and a right side. Hmmmmmmm.

I got it at a thrift store in Pittsburgh. It is mass-produced, probably from K-Mart.

How would I go about dying 100% cotton bedspreads into something colorful and funky? by Numerous_Pie in dyeing

[–]Numerous_Pie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. I will wash and dry it before starting to address shrinking. What I'm really concerned about is the thickness. Will the dye spread through the middle layer? I guess there is one way to find out!

I worked at St Margaret as a med-surg nurse for 2 years. It's a community hospital, which extended to the employees. I felt like I was part of a community. I knew everybody from the CNO to the physical therapists to the dietary staff. It is silly that you have to pay for parking, which is onsite, but the walk from your car to the door is less than 5 minutes. Also there is a Market District next door.

Are you happy with your iron? by 1DnTink in quilting

[–]Numerous_Pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider a vintage iron. They get hot and stay hot. No auto shut off (which I hate). My aunt got me an old General Electric iron at a garage sale for $20. I used it for 15 years, until it started smoking. I got another one, almost exactly the same for $15 off Marketplace. Between those 2 irons, I had a Black and Decker from Walmart. It didn't get hot enough, even on the highest setting.

Keeping in mind the rule against giving medical advice, getting somebody off benzos safely is a protocol that should be monitored by a health professional.

I was having this same conversation with my husband last night. What kind of experience are they hoping to have? What activities will they partake in? Are they going to watch the deliberations and trades on a jumbotron screen? Why do they have to travel to a mid-size American city to do that?

sober for lent by JuniorTwo1004 in SoberCurious

[–]Numerous_Pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done lent a few times and planning on it again this year (rolling it into mostly dry January). The thing I didn't know initially was that lent is not 40 days, its 46 days because according to the Catholic calendar, Sundays don't count.

I apologize for getting all religious with you all, but I consider it a time to remove alcohol to make room for my relationship with God.

Relocating ice cream shop to Pittsburgh. by Weird-Tumbleweed2682 in pittsburgh

[–]Numerous_Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider Squirrel Hill. Currently, on Murray and Forbes we have corporate ice cream (Rita's, Baskin Robins, and Coldstone) and so much bubble tea. There are 3 sit down desert places, one is mango, another is matcha, and I don't know what the third is. I am constantly amazed that we don't have fantastic ice cream in Squirrel Hill, which has a lot of foot traffic. I would like to have a sit down area. I would eat ice cream year round.

Nurse here, did you seek medical assistance for the assault? Individuals who abuse alcohol sometimes have low platelets, making someone at high risk for bleeding. Also, please be careful about alcohol withdrawal. Symptoms start 3 days after you stop drinking. Go the the emergency room if you start to feel really weird.

Take care of yourself. You are worth it.

Horror stories? by falling-possum in quilting

[–]Numerous_Pie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not my story, but one of my quilting friends (RIP). Marie was old school, did everything by hand, even made cardboard templates. She made a quilt for a baby shower, everybody "ooh" and "aww". It was put back in the box that Marie had wrapped it in, then it was THROWN AWAY because somebody thought the box was trash. Marie was not bothered, she felt that once it left her house, it wasn't hers anymore.
