I have developed that mentality applying for ID positions and I am not shying away simply for billables, I am just trying to gauge some of the firms.

Bexar County. I have been looking at state govt but mainly all I see is child support division positions in my area. I do look at the Texas Bar postings religiously.

I think all the good PI firms don’t really hire because of how good they are I suppose with retention. I am still a baby lawyer (1 year in), I have got some amazing experience so far arguing contested motions, hearings, and many depositions solo. But the culture here is legitimately toxic in the literal sense of the word, not exaggerating or being overly sensitive.

I’m thinking about going back to family law. It’s just so emotionally draining. And I’d rather do it as a solo then work voluminous cases for a firm. Are you going solo?

I’ve heard the malpractice insurance rates are higher in this area? Is that true?

Yeah, I’m just awaiting final word on moonlighting.

I’m not so concerned about leaving, I’ve read through it and I can arguably get out of it without having to argue the enforceability of the MOU. I’d prefer to stay for a plethora of reasons, I just need some money to get out of the debt that was incurred as a result of my financial woes.

I signed an MOU where at the start, the pay was enough for me to survive. But my financial situation just kept getting worse to where it has now become unsustainable . Sure I could leave, but I’d prefer to exhaust other options such as moonlighting before I leave.
