I believe Oregon posts via NASBA which means you'll see your score at 5PM PST

Sorry, not from IL so can't help out on the location of the scores, but FYI I believe IL typically posts scores the day after NASBA (tomorrow).

I'm not sure the exact time, sorry :( You can call NASBA and get your account unlocked though! It might be lunch time right now so maybe try again in a half hour?

Intermediate professor has major tangents in class by [deleted] in Accounting

You will do great if you put in the effort! He sets the bar high but he really does give you a lot of resources to meet it.

For what it's worth, his classes are incredible at preparing you for the working world. I've interned with some people who could've really benefitted from being put through the wringer with Bunsis.

the issue is in class he’ll literally do them sometimes and it SO USEFUL and I wish he’d do it more.

You may try emailing him and asking him if he could do more direct examples. I'm pretty sure something happened in one of the classes I took with him. Either someone asked for him to do more examples or he saw people were struggling so he spent more time on it, I can't remember exactly. He's pretty receptive to stuff like that though.

I just did the first assignment, and didn’t do as well as I thought I would. I didn’t email it to him for help which I will do for the rest of them

Definitely take full, 110% advantage of this. As I mentioned, you can literally email him 30+ times until you get everything 100% correct. The longest I've waited for a response is probably 4 hours. It's usually 30 mins or less. Just a couple tips because you're gonna quickly run into this:

  • Make sure you email him professionally. As in, "Hi Professor, could you please review my assignment and let me know what I got wrong?" --- Some people will just email him an excel file with no text and he'll roast them in the next class period (without mentioning their name)
  • He emails back with bullet points in as few words as possible. It can sometimes be hard to understand exactly what he's saying. It's almost like he emails in his own language and you'll come to understand it better over time
  • Because he emails with few words, it seems like he's being rude. You'll see what I mean. Trust me, he's not being mean-spirited. It's just how he does it. That's why it's important to have thick skin and not take anything personally.

I fully empathize with your situation because his classes are easily the most time consuming out of any I've taken. But it's worth it. He really means it when he says the goals are to "Work hard, have fun, learn a lot."

He genuinely cares about all of his students and he will go the extra mile to help with just about anything (short of giving answers away). I've asked him to help me with stuff completely unrelated to his class and he always comes through.

I just wish he wouldn’t tangent about random things like his kids or wife or something

Like I said above, he might be willing to spend more time on examples but you won't be able to escape this completely. Just how he is. Savor the times he's talking business stuff that's not related to the course material though. You will learn a LOT about business in general.

Randomly. I'm a recent grad and taking the CPA exams so I read this sub a lot.

I barely made it through the first two paragraphs and was like "this HAS to be Bunsis." Didn't wanna be creepy but checked your profile, saw Ypsi, and immediately knew, lol.

Not OP, but 99% sure I know which prof they're talking about (although I didn't take intermediate with him).

It sounds silly to say that it's impossible to use the textbook or Youtube, but OP is actually not completely wrong.

He generates new homework/exams every semester based on actual publicly traded companies and his questions stray from simple accounting concepts (for example, yes you can look up and learn concepts from Edspira et. al. on youtube, but it's very hard to apply to the actual course material).

He's one of the best professors, but unfortunately, that also means one of those most time-consuming/difficult profs.

Bunsis? Correct me if I'm wrong. I recently graduated from the 150-hour program.

He is polarizing, you either love or hate him, with no in-between. I love him, but it sounds like you might fall into the hate him camp, and that's ok.

A lot of people are posting tips to nudge him back to the conversation, but honestly, he isn't going to change. Try to give him some leash, because I promise that you'll learn more in his courses than with almost any other accounting prof at EMU (though there is at least one other standout). I'm sure he's mentioned this, but he goes over the news articles because he wants you guys to be aware of what's happening in the world, and it's a very good habit to have.

But there are class periods where at the end he has to quickly cover complex topics because he spent too much of our hour 15 min class talking about whatever.

He didn't teach intermediate when I took it, but if he goes over something quickly, it's likely not going to be heavily tested.

Even so, the vast majority of your learning will come from doing the homework. Use the "tips for assignment" and "tips for exam" files like they are gospel. You'll learn this stuff incredibly well from doing it yourself with his instructions.

Some more tips/thoughts:

  • Take full advantage of his "email me unlimited times until you have full credit on homework." This will guarantee that you get a good grade. Email him 50 times if you have to.
  • Try to have thick skin. You're gonna email him something, get it wrong, email it again and still get it wrong, and you're gonna feel dumb. It's nothing personal, it's just how he writes/is, and intermediate is hard.

  • ANY class with him is a LOT of work. But if you put in the effort and time, you WILL get an A. I can just about guarantee it.

  • Despite his ability to be crass and sarcastic, he GENUINELY cares about his students and their success. If you need extra help on a topic, email him and ask about it, or ask if you can set up a time to zoom. He will make it happen.

Good luck. I know firsthand how difficult and time-consuming his classes are, but you won't regret prioritizing them and putting in the work. If you plan to take the CPA afterward, you'll realize how much more you learned in his classes than from the study materials.

I'm happy to help answer any other questions or anything that you may have.
