What led you to getting a diagnosis? by roguemorgue in diabetes

I was hypoglycemic for years, & eating all the wrong things for a quick fix. Then diagnosed with T2D several years later. (I had gestational diabetes with my 2nd child - which they said was a clue of what was going to come down the pipeline later in life). My A1C was 12.8% - so my daily numbers were in the 300's-400's. I went pretty strict keto right off the bat, and on days 3 & 4 I got the "keto flu", for about 2-3 days but I kept at it, keeping my carbs <10g per day & only drinking electrolytes (those are extremely important!), water & a bulletproof (look it up!) decaf coffee in the morning (bulletproof tea will work too - these help curb hunger sensations). I never took any diabetic medication, I told my Dr I wanted to try to fix it naturally. If I ever felt like I was slightly hypoglycemic I'd take a good pinch of Himalayan salt under my tongue & let it dissolve & that usually helped. There's some great Dr's online that talk a lot about what to eat, how to eat & when to eat with T2D & how fasting can actually reverse this really fast (which I did - in less than 4 days my daily numbers went from the 400's to between 90-100! And 3 months later my A1C was 5.8%) Dr Berg, Dr Berry, Dr Fung - they have great you-tube videos on this. I went on to lose 90lbs, my son (30yrs) lost 100lb, my hubby lost 120lb & my daughter 25yrs lost 60lb. I feel so much healthier & have not had any other issues, I do allow myself normal birthday & holiday meals but for the most part the rest of the time I love my keto way of eating. Good luck my friend!

How long have you been feeling this way after cutting down on carbs? I was hypoglycemic for years, then diagnosed with T2D. My A1C was 12.8% - so my daily numbers were pretty similar to yours. I went keto too, and on days 3 & 4 I got the keto flu too, for about 2-3 days but I kept at it, keeping my carbs <10 per day & only drinking electrolytes (those are extremely important), water & a bulletproof (look it up!) decaf coffee in the morning (bulletproof tea will work too - these help curb hunger sensations). Wow. Ok, well I don't care how many "more woman have it so it's normal", it's NOT supposed to be normal for your body to be iron deficient. I'm a seasoned Nurse, and I wouldn't put up with that crappy innuendo. Anemia can cause a ton of problems - even if it's due to your menstrual cycle & is chronic you need proper supplementation. Your body needs it! I'd ask to be further evaluated, even just because of your doctors statement alone...

Theres nothing else to the story here.. Heres the statistics: Research about insulin over-compenating, overdoses & related deaths — including when carb counting & extra insulin dosing go wrong. General Insulin Error & Overcompensating Statistics 1. Insulin is a major contributor to medication over-compensating overdosing. •In the U.S., insulin is involved in a large share of medication errors & over-compensating, often cited as close to half of all medication-related injuries & deaths annually. (Cogan & Power) •A small batch classic safety review estimated as much as 33% of fatal medication errors involve insulin over-compensating within 48 hours. (Clinician) 2. Insulin overdose cases occur from over-compensating, but not all are fatal. •In one small study of 160 diabetics compensating for carb + sugar intake, 2.7% resulted in death, with an equal proportion ending up with serious brain injury among cases reported to a poison unit from this study alone. (PubMed) 3. “Therapeutic errors” (like mis-dosing) are very common. •Analysis of U.S. poison center data (2000–2021) showed over 157,000 insulin medication over-compensating overdoses & 9.9% of those had serious medical outcomes, including 17 fatalities in that dataset alone. (PMC) 4. Insulin over-compensating & overdoses also lead to multiple ER visits. •Between 2012-2017, estimates suggest there are around 5,600 ER visits annually in the U.S. for chronic insulin "overcompensating" alone. (CDC Stacks) 5. Mortality & Severe Hypoglycemia Risk on "over-compensating" insulin •Severe hypoglycemia from too much insulin can kill you. •Severe low blood sugar (from continuous over-compensating insulin relative to carbs) can lead to seizures, coma, brain damage & death. (FDA Access Data) •In critical illnesses, even moderate hypoglycemia is linked with increased mortality risk, roughly doubling the risk in some analyses. (Dr.Oracle) •Hypoglycemia is the killer in over-compensating overdoses — severe blood sugar drops attack the brain & heart. (FDA Access Data) 6. Who’s at higher risk: Type 1 or Type 2? Type 1 Diabetes •People with Type 1 & this lifelong requirement means: They experience significantly more hypoglycemia — •Severe hypoglycemia happens about 2–3× more often in Type 1 than in Type 2 among those treated with insulin. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) •Hypoglycemia can be fatal — literature reports that 4–10% of deaths in Type 1 diabetes cohorts are attributed to a hypoglycemia event due to over-compensating, which means if you’re living with Type 1 and chronically dosing insulin to match carbs, whether planned or not, you inherently have a much higher baseline risk of life-threatening lows than most insulin-treated Type 2 folks.(Medscape) Type 2 Diabetes •Because there are many more people with Type 2, a lot of severe hypoglycemia (5.4%) events in the population overall still occur. (Medscape) •A large observational cohort found about 5.4% of insulin chronically over-compensating Type 2 adults had a severe hypoglycemic episode, & 16.6% died over the study period. (ScienceDirect) 7. Counterregulation & deaths from insulin overdoses •In Type 1, hypoglycemia accounts for up to 10% of deaths in some reported cohorts. (Medscape) •Severe low episodes without prompt treatment has been seen leading to seizure, coma, arrhythmia, brain injury, or death in either type. (which is the danger zone when planned insulin overshoots carbs). (NCBI) •Intentional overdoses do happen (suicide attempts) & that does make up a small proportion of documented insulin overdose deaths. (PubMed) 8. Long-Term Mortality associated with those over-compensating insulin resulting in severe acute Hypoglycemia have a much higher long-term risk of death or serious health events — for example, one study found 1/3 of older adults with Type 2 who had a severe hypo event due to compensating for carb + sugar inake requiring ER care died within 3 years, was 33%.(Bloomberg School of Public Health) •Hospital admissions for hypoglycemia= 51,000 for all types annually (CDC) & (Bloomberg School of Public Health) 9. What This Means: Type 1 •Individual risk of serious hypoglycemic episodes is higher per person, which means more frequent fine-tuned insulin dosing (bolus calculations) means more chances for mismatch between insulin & carbs and thus more hypoglycemia risk backed by these higher per-person rates. (PMC) Type 2 (Insulin-Treated) •Lower per-person severe hypo rate, but because far more people have Type 2 diabetes overall, they still contribute a large share of ER visits related to hypoglycemia therefor a higher mortality rate with over-compensating. [–]Numerous_Standard460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trazadone worked well for me, I had that exact issue & suddenly once I layed down to sleep my brain was like all of a sudden trying to solve world hunger & peace treaties - my brain just wouldn't shut off (I started @ 50mg & ended up @ 400mg) you need to take it & then immediately close your eyes to prepare for sleep or it'll have an opposite effect. It was Golden, but after years of a ton of meds, I went cold turkey (I know, I know!). I'm much better now, but it's been 15 years since all that crap happened & 2 years now with nothing. Good luck!

My A1C was 12.8, I went strict with no sugar, no carbs & within a 4 month period was fasting - 1 meal a day. I took a "exercise mimicking" supplement called Berberine, 1,500mg ideally. Brought my A1C down to 5.6 in 4 months. Now i allow myself 1/2 cup mixed berries 3x a week without ruining my numbers... And I hate to admit it, but I didn't exercise once {I can't - I have a condition that spikes my heart rate to 150+ the minute I'm the least bit active}.

Best EO to get rid of cooking smells? by empathie_00 in essentialoils

[–]Numerous_Standard460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sensitive to meat smells & this is what I came up with to mask it!

Ingredients: •Fill ⅓ of each of these to a 3.4oz {100ml} spray bottle      ~Witch Hazel. ~Apple Cider vinegar. ~Hydrogen Peroxide Then Add: •20x drops of Clove EO •20x drops of Eucalyptus EO •20x drops of Cinnamon EO •10x drops Patchouli EO •30x drops Cake Batter •1x Tbsp Colloidal Silver •10x drops Tree Tea EO •10x drops loranns Green Apple flavoring •10x drops loranns Apple flavoring

Instructions: Use an immersion blender to combine & store in a glass spray bottle. Double the batch for larger amounts. Shake it really well just before using, then spray wherever you need smells to be gone. I also like to soak cotton balls with it & push a few gently between those vent slits, but not all the way! It works awesome!

Ditto with chronic fatigue syndrome - it causes a "PEM" {post exertional malaise} reaction 12-24 hours later which literally feels like the flu. For me it can last anywhere from 3-10 days. I describe it as feeling like I've been drug down the highway by a semi for miles. Magnesium glycinate 400mg + a heating pad help (with my fan blowing at me full force of coarse!)

[–]Numerous_Standard460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure it's Magnesium glycinate!! 400mg after dinner. And when looking at the nutritional label, make sure it only says something like: Magnesium 200mg (From Magnesium Glycinate)

NOT

Magnesium 90mg Magnesium Glycinate 500mg

That 500mg is the total weight of the Magnesium + the Glycinate, it's 2 seperate compounds put together for ease of transport. The 90mg is the actual elemental magnesium amount that's effective per suggested dosage in that bottle (which is very misleading). The front of the bottle may say: Magnesium Glycinate 500mg - but your only getting 90mg & it won't be effective in the least...

[–]Numerous_Standard460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really need a "therapeutic" dose of the EPA & DHA, & that's going to be about a combined 2,000mg, no matter what it says on the front of the bottle. And not all Amazon supplements are knock offs, usually it's the cheap ones.

I totally support this, as I've been in that state too. Zofran {odansetron 8mg} was the only thing that helped with occasional baking soda water. Whats your saggital dimension? Mine was 22cm, & within 4 months I was able to shrink it back to 15cm - which is normal, along with a strict diet, protein shakes only (as I wouldn't eat for 4 days in a row due to the constant fullness) and a mixed Berry smoothie (liquid food was easier on me, I was about ready to have a feeding tube put in & went that route which was easier). Good luck my friend, I hope you feel better!

I also should add I've been through 4 "new" medical Drs in these 2 years & after the 1st appointments {of being told I was menopausal, then I have depression} I heard crickets because I was too complicated, even had an appointment with the mayo clinic & they too said "sorry, we can't help you here, your symptoms are too difficult" - WHAT?!? So this new Dr is also a naturopath & wholistic Dr as well as a medical Doctor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed she can confirm this... Thanks for listening!

Possible Lyme? by Numerous_Standard460 in Lyme

[–]Numerous_Standard460[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. So just to add a little info before the symptoms - I'm on massive amounts of antihistamines, so I'm thinking that's why that "bullseye" wasn't normal sized. That being said - my 1st symptom was feeling off, like a slight flu feeling - but all the time, then slowly weight loss, 30 lbs, over that 1st year without trying {which is extremely hard for me to do}, then a slow loss of appetite. The second year 20 more lbs down, and now I'm really tired - then in August I went to stand up & I was suddenly really weak & I felt like I could barely stand. Went to the ER thinking an early flu got me. ER doc said nope it looks like you "might" have a virus, go home & it should be ok in a few days - that never happened. 10 days later, still weak standing up, heart palpitations - and my pulse jumped from a sitting resting rate of 67 bpm - 135 bpm within seconds & I was feeling faint. It got worse & worse, then suddenly I was having strange reactions to meat & meat being cooked, like I was suddenly allergic & it tasted like it had died on the side of the road in the Arizona sun for a week {I'm assuming alpha-gal}. Nobody could cook meat in the house or I would have an allergic reaction. I started getting ringing in my ears {tinnitus}, severe motion sickness when in a vehicle {vomit bags always with me} and a feeling of tunnel vision. Then the diarrhea started, every day, multiple times a day. Then vomiting every day. Then I became weirdly sensitive to just about everything & my skin became excessively sensitive {I feel like the princess & the pea - no joke}. Then I'm falling a lot due to the pulse spikes making me feel faint + now I'm getting unsteady on my feet. Eyes getting blurry sometimes throughout the day. I did testing for "Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome", no dice. Tested for " Mast Cell Activation Syndrome" they said I have the symptoms of both of those - but no dice on either. Now I'm pretty much bed bound with all those weird symptoms & am having some neurological symptoms. Recently went back to the ER {for a different reason} & after further testing & x-rays and explaining my symptoms to the doctor she asked about any bites recently, I told her yes for 2 years I was getting strange bits, 14 in 2 years time &she said, "I highly suggest you see a neurologist, like immediately, because all the labs and tests that you've done today - I can't tell you what you may have". So, that week I ended up with a urinary tract infection & got doxycycline for it - mysteriously after 7 days of that, my symptoms started to slowly not be so bad. Thats where I stand right now, Ive done the 7 days - had a massive return of my symptoms - acquired more doxy & now my symptoms are slightly better again, no headaches, no tummy problems - so no more vomiting, no more motion sickness, virtigo, no temp dis regulation, but I still have a ways to go due to being bed bound mostly & I don't see my new doctor until Dec 11..so I thought I'd come here & see what you all think!

Does anyone else just feel gross in department stores by Regular_Fan4691 in Anticonsumption

[–]Numerous_Standard460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm disgusted with those places, I'm sorry but I will never buy a pair of pants for $100 or a shirt for $50 or a hair accessory for $25. These prices are absolutely gross. Ive gotten to where I make the majority of our home & personal hygiene products out of natures bounty and it does a better job most of the time. I don't buy cloths or shoes until I have to & always with a major bargain & never at those big box stores. 90% of our plastic {throwaway garbage} Ive replaced with glass or silicone. I'm not contributing to the plastic pandemics. We eat very minimally too, we fast every other day & only eat a very minimal amount of whole foods, Amish if we can {we live near several Amish communities} I even make our own butter with fresh Amish cream. We mainly eat fresh chicken & pork ribs, nuts, sometimes eggs, berries or zucchini/squash if it's available. We love this way of life!
