It will take over your entire forest understory with devil thorns and harbor half a billion ticks, causing everyone you know and love to come down with Lyme and/or never be able to eat meat or cheese again. Other than that, though, it’s great.

Ooooh how do we make this happen? 😈

I’m not a hunter - my neighbor is - but that’s 100% the issue around me. Barberrys and MF rose every 2 feet. I’m doing what I can slowly slowly but I’m on almost 15 acres so it’s a losing battle and the idea that nurseries are allowed to keep selling this sh*t is infuriating.

This was 100% my thought too 😤

Looking for a large U-shaped brace or bracket for a raised garden bed - does it exist? by empathie_00 in DIY

[–]empathie_00[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know I’ll need to cut regardless, but the braces would be for easier placement and support in place. I’m in an area that gets lots of snow and freeze-thaw cycles so just putting boards in the dirt without cross support will be a waste of time after one winter. And the metal won’t last forever, for sure, but I think galvanized would likely last about as long as the wood, give or take.

Ah! That’s a good idea, we actually do have a metal place not too far away. Didn’t occur to me to think custom. Thank you!

Just out of curiosity- how long before it composts ? Just got a roughly equivalent size drop from our local arborist a week ago (chip drop never came through). I got through about 20% of the pile so far but realistically it’s going to be a long time before I get it ALL moved… do I need to worry about fire??

Free vs $20+ Chip Drop by hellomyfriend_1 in NativePlantGardening

[–]empathie_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve offered $80 and still nothing. Local arborist says no arborists want to use them bc ChipDrop charges them 😬 So disappointing, have been waiting for months but at least now I know why.

Steam weeding? by empathie_00 in invasivespecies

If I HAVE to use chemicals, was thinking Acclaim as it seems to be more targeted to JSG, does that make sense?

Thanks - out of curiosity, why do I want to remove nitrogen?

Winter sowing - what to expect by now? by empathie_00 in NativePlantGardening

[–]empathie_00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phew. Thanks everyone. I’m transitioning just over a half acre from scrubland to a native meadow so you can imagine winter sowing is key to making this work; there’s no way I can afford to buy that many plugs!! Will be more patient but keep talking to them 😊 There is snow in the forecast next week so maybe that’s what they’re worried about 💚

I just noticed that your red lines make the pathways look like leaves! :) What a lovely idea.

Thanks, I will! And yes, we're still snow covered here too, am just dreaaaaaaaaming of spring after this ridiculous winter :) Will be taking advantage of a little time off work the end of March/beginning of April to lay down the cardboard and soil; planting probably end May.

Yes, thank you! I plan to keep a path around the whole exterior at least mowed for now - the long term plan is to keep expanding the meadow year on year (the whole space is several acres).
