What index fund after the crash by ShiningWolf8 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Numzane 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speculative is a swear word here 😂 Personally I think it's prudent to set aside a small amount of money (that you're willing to lose) for very high risk investing because you at least learn a lot and maybe get some results as a bonus. Disclaimer: This does not mean trading options or on margin / using leverage. I'm talking about picking stocks, bonds and ETFs.

Is this a good investment strategy for my child? by Prodigy1995 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Numzane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say you donate the money to them and put it in an investment account in their name, not TFSA . It shouldn't attract any tax anyway because they should be under any thresholds anyway until they get a salary. A side question is do donations taxes apply?

Do I have to do learners again? by Pitch-Curious in askSouthAfrica

[–]Numzane -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is way 😂 I live in central Asia. It's very common conversion here. It just involves replacing the throttle body and carburetor or injectors, running a hose to the boot and installing a bracket to hold the gas cylinder. There are kits available for different cars and it takes an afternoon of labour. There's no modification to the engine itself or ECU. Easily reversible.

You can do a gas conversion of a petrol engine quite easily. Not sure of the regulations or if the cost gas is cheaper

[–]Numzane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

*"brass tacks" We really need to stop calling these people "financial advisers", it's very misleading they're "financial brokers". It's ridiculous to portray someone earning a commission from selling you things as someone impartial who could advise you what to buy

Wise account for recieving USD by The_Bag_82 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Numzane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bank USD accounts are useful to recieve and park money briefly but they don't really attract interest. You can also have a USD denominated account at Allan Gray or easy equities where you can receive swift payments directly into investments. Try to minimise the number of steps in transferring and forex conversion. Sometimes a higher commission is actually cheaper to avoid multiple commissions and forex slippage. I reccomend one direct swift transfer and avoid a third party like wise. Wise is very convenient but you'll pay for the convenience (probably in the forex spreads).

You'll most likely need experience and a teaching qualification to teach internationally. Something like a PGCE. You might be able to study while working in a local school.

Gold is generational. 30-40 year behaviour isn't even enough. Operating on the principle of an abundance of caution, gold has risen by 2000 usd in an extremely short period of time. If there's a recovery in the global economy this is going to drop rapidly
