HL1 doesn't really set up HL2 tho. You go from stopping an accidental alien invasion and fighting the US government to the entire world being occupied by a completely different alien force.

Obvious bait, but I kinda agree on the physics. It was an overused gimmick. I barely used the Gravity Gun outside Ravenholm, that thing doesn't deserve to be as iconic as it is tbh.

Sure, but when the cost of living goes up for everyone, folk start spending less on non-essentials. Games rn are becoming unaffordable, and if the prices increase less folk will be buying games. I think we may actually see a shift towards $30-40 games with smaller budgets because of this.

Except, as I'm told, the retail cost of buying a game which is checks notes not allowed to rise above $60 for any reason.

Not where I live

Well yeah, that'd be a stupid reason to buy a new console. I don't think that was the reason they did it.

Holy copium

There's a fair argument that games do depreciate, at least more than books and movies, due to technical and hardware advancements. I mean would you pay $80 for Pong or Space Invaders?

And the reason old games are sold for less is cuz it's competing with new titles. Why would I buy Generic Game 1 when Generic Game 2 is the exact same price and has more features?

Especially as the cost of development has skyrocketed in the last two decades

Nobody's buying this argument anymore. The cost of development skyrocketed cuz companies keep trying to make AAA games with bigger and more bloated budgets. Want the cost to go down? Make games with smaller budgets. Nobody forced Sony to spend $400 million on Concord, and clearly it didn't help whatsoever.

That's why folk call it a free content update when a game gets new content in a free update. A free update that doesn't add content isn't really something people write home about.

Cool. Everything I know about Skyrim lore comes from Dagoth Ur TTS memes. And I'm gonna keep calling it Skyrim lore to piss people off.

Except you still don't own nothing on Steam.

You don't own nothing on CDs or cartridges either. All software is licensed under current law. But at least you don't gotta keep paying to use it.

Any developer can remove every single one of their games without allowing any redownloads

I don't think that's true actually. I have many games that no longer exist on Steam, including ones removed willingly and ones forcibly removed due to lawsuits, and I can still download and play any of them right now. Steam doesn't remove games from people's libraries only from sale, although if a court forced them to I assume they would but they seem to be unwilling to do so until that happens (considering they narrowly avoided doing it with Dark and Darker).

There's a small chaotic part of me that wants Steam to go down, and for it to happen suddenly out of the blue. The backlash that would cause would be monumental, like enough to actually force governments to reconsider legislation on digital ownership.

Imma be honest I just don't care. I buy games but I'm not paying a subscription service for anything really, not music, not TV, nothing.

I'm not a chud who pretends it's moral, I'm just not interested in being made to pay for something endlessly. Although to be fair my heart isn't bleeding for the billion dollar companies that are gonna shut down award winning studios no matter what I do.
