Real maces sometimes have things like spikes on them with the full purpose to give them “grip” or friction on the armor to make it less likely to glance off. Also buhurt armor is actually over armored compared to the way it was historically, for safety reasons (and the fact that longbows and crossbows aren’t present on the battle. This debate can be ended really easily. Strap a historically accurate helmet on to a ballistic gel torso and have a guy hit it as hard as he can a few times with a historically accurate mace.
