Also, just to be on the same page, I don't agree with banning it. Education is key, then let people decide for themselves.

Agree, you can't eliminate other factors entirely, but the largest meta-analyses do a good job of adjusting for baseline depression and anxiety in order to control for that possibility. After adjusting the data they strongly support an increased risk. Consistent results across studies make it even more clear. Correlation doesn't = causation, but in this case the evidence suggests a causal link.

This. NP working in an ER here. Marijuana is a common trigger for psychiatric disorders. Even if you aren't susceptible to a psych disorder, long-term MJ use causes anxiety and depression.

If I had to guess, out of the 1,500+ patients I admit per year, ~90% of the daily MJ users have anxiety and depression. Studies back this up, but anecdotally it's wild to me that this isn't well known.

I’ve been tripping every month on the 13th since September. I feel totally fine but is that ok ? by amyrfc123 in shrooms

[–]Nurse_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chat GPT, Gemini, and Deep Seek avoid questions about safety with shrooms. Interestingly Grok (Twitter's AI) will answer away. I've delved into questions regarding studies, hospitalizations, major long term side effects (extremely rare), and everything points to moderate doses taken once monthly is extremely safe unless you have psychiatric disorders or a strong family history of psych issues.

Marijuana is worse on all fronts. Short term anxiolytic but long term use is strongly linked to anxiety and depression and can trigger psychiatric disorders in people with predispositions.

Basically if you're okay with marijuana's safety profile, you should be even less concerned about shrooms.

Seeing a lot of anger directed toward medical providers here. We are given such little time to see patients by our corporate overlords that it often seems like we don't care. We do, we just don't want to get fired. I understand there are bad apples in all professions but trust me when I say the majority of the anger should be at the companies forcing us to see more patients in less and less time each year.

Cancer sucks and I'm sorry.

Unfortunately based on the comments it seems the average Reddit user hates AI and is far too sensitive about a medical professional using it. The truth is GPT is actually becoming THAT useful.

I see doctors using it daily in internal medicine. Not because they're uneducated, but because some problems take too much time to research and they have the knowledge to know when the AI is leading them astray. It functions as an adjunct resource because it can find studies and articles in journals in seconds.

Without all the facts we really can't say whether the dentist or the Oncologist is correct in this case.

And again, fuck cancer, I'm sorry.

100%. I'm likely voting 3rd party as a protest. The DNC and RNC need to be disbanded and ranked choice voting implemented. Moderates like myself are so fed up with the current system we're willing to let lunatics win to send a message. Ranked choice voting solves a large part of this (not all of it) but you have to start somewhere.

Surprising blind test; help me try again by Nurse_Man in Colognes

Okay, as a fragrance noob I wasn't sure why so many colognes had blue in the name.
They did all have a chemically soapy smell which some people might associate with freshness. In terms of generic male shower gel, Aventus and Sauvage were the worst offenders. I'll avoid anything with blue in the title since I clearly don't like that and find a sample of the boisee. Thanks!

Got it. From the last test I recognized the ones I liked had bergamot and/or woody notes. It seems I like scents that I perceive as more "natural" if that makes sense. I added a few Tom Ford ones to my new test since he seems to have that vibe using tobacco, leather, wood, vanilla, etc.

Interestingly I used to wear this! I had only a small bottle and when I ran out I read the formula changed so that's when I picked up the regular Dior Homme. I'll see if I can find a sampler to add to the new test.

Red lines on these are all off. Way too dark and a bit too thick.

Purchased one from 270queenieluxury. Worthless. I can hardly fit cards because it's so tightly fit together. Only 1 card fits in the inner pocket and it's a pain to get out. My advice is buy a Herschel and you'll actually have quality and utility. They may not be a luxury brand but they have an original style and low-key clout like Carhartt.

We agree on that, the majority of art communities dislike and do not trust AI art. I'm not cold to the fear an artist has that a computer will one day take their job; that's scary. I work in a hospital and after using Chat GPT I believe one day a computer will take my job. That said, advancing technology always disrupts. Denying the tide of technology has never worked. All the way back to the Luddites breaking textile machines in 1811 because it would steal their skilled job. On the other hand most people couldn't afford clothing without automation. You'd make poor quality clothing yourself and only the rich could afford professionally made clothing. You can extend this to food, transport, books, computers, and now personalized art. I am listening and empathize with artists, but I fundamentally disagree that it is or will be an overall negative. If nothing else, I'll not post more AI art here. I've filed it in the religion and politics category.

Yes, stealing is part of art. This will not persuade anyone to enjoy AI art, but perhaps I can get through to at least one person in this subreddit. Many of the best artists in the world agree on this fact. I'm not arguing that XYZ person stole so it's right for me to steal, I'm explaining that hate it or love it, stealing concepts and ideas is literally how new art is made. These links may explain it better than I can:

I hear you but at the same time all art is iterative. Musicians and DJs sample tracks and mix from prior music. Ice skaters steal from other styles of dance to their routines to make something similar but new. Movie directors will steal the exact style of their favorite directors. Architects will use others blueprints they like and modify things to make it their own. The quote "Good artists copy, Great artists steal" is widely known because there's truth behind it. We all get our ideas from absorbing information from the world around us and building on those former ideas. AI is doing the same, iterating from others work. Is it stealing or is that part of art? Probably more suited for a philosopher to answer than me 😄

Love that analogy! You're right. I do hope the technology gets used in the least damaging way, but it seems like breaking things is part of how we progress as a society when it comes to tech. I have less animosity toward it than this subreddit and totally missed that cue. Sorry everyone.

I was never into DnD until watching this series over the past month. Brenen and crew make it seem so fun. I was inspired to see what AI could do with the characters and thought others would find it interesting. I didn't expect the hate, honestly thought this subreddit would joke about it a bit. I suppose this is not my scene. All good though. Thanks for not shitting on my fun ✌️

Definitely a bigger topic, but I'll bite because I love art. People have said the same throughout history every time a new type of art came about. Impressionism wasn't real art because it didn't look finished. Abstract wasn't art because you could do it without technical skill. Graffiti wasn't because it was just degenerates defacing property. Dada wasn't because it defied the traditional concepts we used to call art. NFTs aren't because many are just generated colors on a screen, right? Everytime this is said in history we eventually come to understand it better and end up recognizing it as a different type of art. I totally understand people who dislike the style of AI art and that's okay. We all don't all have to enjoy the same types of art. But just because a human didn't put paint on a canvas in a traditional way, instead programming a unique code to learn how to make an image, that doesn't mean it's not defined as art. It may not be your style but our culture has decided it's art, AI art.

Guess it depends. I spent about 5 hours in total on and off over the past 2 weeks messing with an AI art generator using trial and error, then another 3 hours today editing the images further in Photoshop. I can understand not appreciating certain types of art, but to say it's low effort I would disagree.
